View Full Version : Tennessee Titans
daniel3417 10-20-2008, 04:11 PM The Titans are undefeated, and I see no topics on them. Shame on you. Dallas wins, they make the papers. Dallas loses, they make the papers. Oh well, at least we got rid of Pacman!
Before you guys say, "Oh Daniel, they haven't played anybody!" I'd like to make a proactive response. In the NFL, we see week after week, that the worst team is good enough to beat the best. I understand that overall, bad teams are bad and good teams are good, but to go 6-0 in the NFL with the parity that we see, i.e., St. Louis beating Dallas and Cleveland beating NYG, is a very hard thing to do.
We have allowed 66 points in 6 games. So if Kerry Collins can lead our offense to 12 points, we win. All he has to do is get us to the 30 yard line and Rob Bironas will nail a 47 yarder blindfolded (he's 18/18). Of course, our once anemic offense has found life with a stellar running game and "good enough" passing game. Chris Johnson is incredible, and LenDale White is doing what he does best: chuggalugging it, baby!
Don't even get me started on the defense. I'll just type some of our starters and let you figure out the rest: Albert Haynesworth, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Jevon Kearse, Keith Bulluck, Cortland Finnegan, Michael Griffin, Chris Hope, etc etc etc. This defense has knocked out 3 of the 9 QBs its faced out of the game. That means Peyton Manning has a 33% that he won't finish the game this coming Monday. Teams this year the week after playing the Titans are 1-5. Maybe that's coincidence. Or maybe after an hour of getting the crap beat out of you, it takes more than a week to fully recover.
Noticed how I haven't mentioned Vince Young. That's because I have confidence in the best coach in the NFL, Jeff Fisher. Yes, folks. He's the best. Better than Bellichek. Why? Because Bellichek loses his QB, and they suck. We lose our QB and proceed to 6-0. It might be stretching it right there, but I can say what I want because I have yet to lose.
This feels like the year when the Ravens and Bucs won the Super Bowl...

#11 Roy Williams 10-20-2008, 04:27 PM There is absolutely no doubting the Titans, or anything you've said except the Patriots comment. If Vince Young was even a fourth of the talent then Brady had, and the offense was revolving around him, then you'd be in the same position as the Pats or maybe even worse. Vince Young wasn't a great QB either way, so it's not like the step down (if there is even a step down) from VY to Collins is even close to Tom Brady to Matt Cassell. Either way, Titans seem to be rolling. Playing old school football where it's run the ball down their throat and allow your defense to keep it close. They are looking great, and I don't see many teams in the AFC beating them (maybe Steelers - little more dynamic offense but the defense is a tad worse. Maybe the Colts if they can get back to normal, not many teams can stop them.)
So far, it's looking like an easy stroll to a first week bye in the Playoffs for the Titans in a perennial tough division.

Seems to me the team being over looked more then the Titans is the Bills - who have beaten 3 teams that were in the playoffs last year :confused0024:

I was thinking about the Bills, but didn't include them because their run game is good, but it isn't explosive. They do have a better passing game, but it's run by a young guy on which any given Sunday could either blow up, or do terrible.

I agree about not having an explosive run game, but Edwards (albeight not putting up huge TD numbers) stats are not that bad:
2nd in the league in completion %
4th in the league in QB rating
Tied 5th in the league in yards per completion
Not to mention his 4th quarter stats are amazing this year.
Other then the insanely bad weather games last year (Cleveland mainly) he hasn't played a bad game in the league.
If it were JP, ok I agree with you - but Edwards is on his way to being a star QB in the league (I won't go with elite like some commentators are yet, lol)
...and I realize being a fan of his, and being in Buffalo it does sound a little bias - but I am not nearly as over reacting as some people are about him LOL

Haha, no disagreement here. I like the guy quite a bit (reason why I just traded for a SPA Gold), but he's still a young guy, and will have to play in bad weather games at the end of the year, so I'll see how he plays then before I decide that they could compete with the Titans to a point where they could beat them. Buffalo has a solid defense as well, and great special teams, but if Lynch would breakout as I'm sure he could, that team would be something special.

I actually think it's more the O-Line then Lynch. For as big as they are (and they are like top 3 in size) they can't run block the greatest, lol.
Pass blocking they are coming back along (took Peters a few weeks) - and yesterday was a little better later on (with a backup center), but run blocking I don't know what the issue is.
I even think Freddie Jackson might be better suited to run behind this line, since he has a different style. Though having Freddie be the lead blocker (and flattening Jammer on the play) seemed to work well on the Lynch TD.
Either way - I am happy with the playoffs, since we haven't even had that in near 10 years here in Buffalo, LOL
gladdyontherise 10-20-2008, 05:02 PM I think the Titans have a chance to go to/win the superbowl. One thing the Patriots shoulda taught us all is winning in the regular season is nothing if you can't seal the deal when it matters. Sure there defense is good, but honestly, even though you said not to, who have they beat?
Jacksonville: a dissapointment this year, at this point its not an impressive win
Cincinati: enough said, theyre awful
Houston: they are as awful as Cinci
Minnesota: a terrible passing team and defense is overrated, giving 48 up to the bears??
Baltimore: offense is nothing, overrated D
Kansas City: why talk about them? they play all 3 QB's in the game....
so sure they win but will they win against the tough schedule coming? No!
& to talk about there offense. The running game is amazing but Kerry Collins in NO WAY benefits the team, VY is the future and no one wouldrather have collins on there team more than Young.
Need I remind you all that last year when there team was much worse and division was much better Young took them to the playoffs?
enough said, and to everyone, don't try to take my words out of context or start a fight, this is simply my opinion
hector234 10-20-2008, 05:06 PM :sign0020: The Texans are as awful as Cinci? Please, they lost 2 games they should've won. They could be sitting at 4-2. They are not a great team, but they are not even close to the worse.

The thing that differentiates Collins and VY, is that Collins can control a game, while VY makes far too many turnovers. Obviously Fisher believes that Collins is better for the team right now than VY since VY is healthy and on the bench while Collins is under center every game since VY tried to take himself out of the game.
And, Houston is definately not "as bad as Cinci." They should've beat Colts with their backup QB. Coincidently, their backup QB lost them the game at the end.
And we will have to wait and see before coming to a conclusion whether they will win against their tough coming schedule. I wouldn't see why not. Jacksonville, Minny and Baltimore are not bad teams, either.

Ask the Giants how good the Browns are. Any win in the NFL is a good win, and we have more than any other team.
No team would rather have Collins over VY for the future. There is no debating that. But to used the overused coaching cliche, Fisher is playing the guy that "gives us the best chance to win." I've watched every single snap that each has taken as a Titan. VY is very athletic but his decision making is horrific. And you're very wrong. Collins is a huge benefit to the team. With Vince, we had no passing game whatsoever. Collins is an efficient passer who can hit an open receiver, like you should be able to. Please, do not argue that point. I never miss a Titans game.
And you said that Kansas City played all three QBs. Yes, because our defense destroyed the other two. Croyle is out for the season and Huard got knocked out. It's not our fault that Albert Haynesworth got hungry and feasted on the o-line and QB.
And last year, Vince did not take us to the playoffs. The rest of the team dragged him there. He was awful. Last year's playoff run is attributed to LenDale and Albert. Vince was terrible. Once again, please do not dispute that, I saw two games in person, and I watched every single second all year.
The debate over Vince Young is no debate if you have watched the Titans for the past three years.

true that, everyone says young was the reason the titans make the playoffs last year, i dont think so. it was the defense and yes guys..lendale white..give him the credit he deserves.

I like the Cards, I picked them to win the division, but they need to be more consistent. They did get blown out by Favre not long ago

That was a fluke game with 6 turnovers in the 1st half...they scored 21 straight in the 2nd half to make it 34-21 but fell short of the comeback.
herdyrules 10-21-2008, 04:44 AM Whoever said the Titans have a tough remaining schedule and can't keep winning should never input on the NFL again!!! There is only 1 game there that would give me doubts about them winning and it would be the Steeler game. At worst, I see them going easily 13-3 to 14-2 with a great possibility of going 16-0. Laugh it you like and/or call me stupid but that would be my say.
Indy 3-3
GB 4-3
CHI 4-3
Jax 3-3
NYJ 3-3
Det 0-6
Cle 2-4
HOU 2-4
Pitt 5-1
Indy 3-3

I know, but the Cards are still a team on the rise. I hope they win that division and make some noise in the playoffs. Still waiting for them to put in my boy DRC :frusty:
cmg816 10-21-2008, 11:57 AM Titans will make the playoffs but they will not go to the Super Bowl....schedule has been favorable to them so far they have not played anyone with a winning record. Have a great defense but does anyone feel like they have an offense strong enough to go all the way??
Collins i think is nothing more than a simple game manager, they have a vanilla offense that i do not see being good enough to score in the playoffs when it will really matter going up against stiffer competition. Let's wait and see how they do against better teams the rest of the season also.
onestyles 10-21-2008, 12:05 PM as a titans fan, i do not want to see vy as the future of tennessee football. as stated before he was carried into the playoffs not vice versa. how far did vick ever get atlanta?? they have a MUCH brighter future with ryan at the helm there. the titans will be the same way when the vy fetish is over. i hope it doesnt take long.
wnysupport 10-21-2008, 12:41 PM The Cards beat the Bills with JP Losman as QB - not Trent Edwards.
The Bills are a 100% different team without Edwards as QB - from the defense (since they are on the field more without Edwards), to the offense.
Would the results have been different, who knows - but I know they don't beat them by 21 with Edwards in the game.

Don't forget about the years that the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers won it all. They had Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson as QBs respectively. That sounds a lot like this year's Titans.

Vick took them to the playoffs 2 out of 4 years and once was to the NFC Championship. In 2003, his 2nd year starting he took them into Green Bay and gave the Packers their 1st ever home loss in the playoffs. And he never had any great weapons or oline on offense.

BU54CB 10-21-2008, 06:52 PM I like the Titans, and have been fan since they were in Houston. They aren't "my team" but I follow them. They've had a good D for some time now, but the offense hasn't been great, but they've found the running game. I'll be interested to see how the rest of the season goes, 10 games left and that's a lot in the NFL. I think the test will be against teams that actually have an offense that can score and a good D. The Titans may struggle if they have to come from behind.

I might agree about how we might struggle if we have to come back. But as long as our D keeps us within 7 points, I think we're ok. And honestly, I don't think any team is going to be very successful in getting up by more than that on our D.

We shall see the week of Christmas. Hope old man Collins has his running shoes on. The leading sack tandem will be coming from both sides he might have to move around a bit. ;)

That'll be an awesome game. And you make sure Big Ben tries to get rid of the ball a little quicker than usual. It will most likely result in an interception from Michael Griffin or Cortland Finnegan, but it definitely beats getting landed on by Albert Haynesworth and ending your season.
