View Full Version : Announcing the SCF Baseball Supercollector program
andrewcstein 11-07-2008, 01:08 PM Background
The baseball Supercollector will reward player collectors with exemplary collections. These Supercollectors will receive a badge indicating their achievement in collecting a particular player. This award is meant for those who collect everything of a certain player, not just game used, autographs, of high-end cards.
No specified percentage is required; the determination will be made on a player-by-player and collection-by-collection basis. However, in order to apply, you must have at least 15% of a player's cards, as determined via the listing in Beckett. This percentage does not guarantee the entrant will become a supercollector; it is merely to ensure that a minimum standard is met.
Application Process
Members may apply once per month for the award. If turned down, you may apply again the following month. The application should include the player’s name, the number of cards in the member’s collection, and the percentage of the total. If you would like to do a separate percentage of cards not including 1/1s, collection not including 2008 Milestones cards, etc., etc., you may. Additional statistics such as number of autographs, game used, oddball (not recognized by Beckett), and 1/1 cards is also welcome. In addition, a list of non-card items, such as posters, schedules, bobbleheads, etc., will do nothing but help the application. Also, please provide a brief explanation of why you collect the player you do. A site, whether it be a text or picture site, is also necessary to display or list some of the cards in the collection. The application will be judged by the Baseball staff, and worthy members will be awarded with the title.
Important Notes
Each member may only be a Supercollector of one player. However, more than one member can be a Supercollector of the same player. So, there can be 10 David Wright Supercollectors, but each member may only have one award.
Supercollectors who are suspended will lose their badge for the duration of their suspension.
Please submit your application to BBonds25.
Keep in mind this is a new program, and we reserve the right to tweak it as we see fit. And please be patient after submitting your application.
Thank you and good luck!
jtrinaldi 11-07-2008, 01:12 PM is there anyway you could get me a list of cards of chris chambers because i have a ton of him
andrewcstein 11-07-2008, 02:15 PM We're just doing baseball for now. Each sport will eventually roll out a program like this.
As for finding a list of cards, Beckett.com is the way to go.
spuds1961 11-07-2008, 11:09 PM It looks good Andrew.
darkqug 11-09-2008, 09:08 PM Cool. I don't have a guy in baseball, but look forward to the program in hockey!
nyyanksman 11-10-2008, 11:00 AM i think ill submit my joba collection. i have around %40 of it not including 1/1s or 2006 cards minor league cards.
AThrash37DSnyder 11-10-2008, 11:16 AM If I can pull off the HUGE trade I am going to apply for Biggio. I am currently at 13.6%

andrewcstein 11-10-2008, 11:51 AM How could I find out on beckett.com?
http://beta.beckett.com/
You can sign up for a free account and just search for the player. It'll give you all the results, and you can further search by Auto, GU, 1/1, etc, to get breakdowns.

LA Sports Fan 11-11-2008, 11:03 PM hmm i need to go through my strawberry collection
mattdile3 11-11-2008, 11:12 PM Speaking of David Wright, I got to organize my stuff out but I should in fact have enough to qualify
mattdile3 11-11-2008, 11:13 PM I know I have 9 autos of his.... That should count for something...
By the way this is the Baseball card forum's 100th post~!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It feels like such an honor to own it ;)
monkeyman 11-11-2008, 11:38 PM this is really cool! I could definitely be a felix pie super collector, but i really want to work on my ryan theriot collection as he is my favorite player
BBonds25 11-11-2008, 11:42 PM If you feel that you can reach Super Collector status, then PM me your applications per the guidelines in the first post.
I'm looking forward to seeing them!
Brad
gladdyontherise 11-13-2008, 06:49 PM i will be doing mine in just a minute!
whanlon 11-16-2008, 12:16 AM So, you have to reapply each month? or you can only apply once a month and once you have the SC you have it for good?
andrewcstein 11-16-2008, 10:29 AM So, you have to reapply each month? or you can only apply once a month and once you have the SC you have it for good?
Once you get it, you only lose it if you're banned or suspended.
Scrowe80 11-23-2008, 09:18 PM What about team collectors? I collect yankees as a team all players from all years.
gladdyontherise 11-23-2008, 09:22 PM what type of percent do we need? my 11% wasnt enough, but that counted all 1/1's. can we do a percent without 1/1's that would count?
Scrowe80 11-23-2008, 10:20 PM What about team collectors? I collect yankees as a team all players from all years.
BBonds25 11-24-2008, 02:07 AM Right now we are only excepting applications for player collections.
whanlon 11-24-2008, 03:22 AM It is possible to see the SC Icon you get?
BBonds25 11-24-2008, 09:28 AM If you go into the Baseball Super Collector Hall of Fame forum and look at the threads pertaining to JKC and pgrossma, you can see the badge under their user name.
mikecancelliere 11-24-2008, 05:58 PM is there a way my alexei ramirez PC will be eligable for this thread? he only has like 15 cards out and i havelike 10 of them
1st40/40 11-25-2008, 11:45 AM looking at the Icon I think you guys should be able to make one that has the players name with supercollector below it.. that way when people see your posts. they can see you are the sites recognized specific player supercollector. also in the collector list it should be noted as well next to the user's name and bold the users name if thats not done already. a recognized supercollector's Id should stand out so that traders will look to offer to that person first stuff they have of the player for trade.
mattdile3 11-25-2008, 11:54 AM Mike.... Alexei Ramirez has 21 cards out.... So if you have 10 I believe you qualify, but again there is no necessary percentage that guarantees supercollector status.... He only has 21 cards out so it might be tough to judge. 15% is needed to qualify though. So give it a shot I would say
AThrash37DSnyder 11-27-2008, 05:05 PM Man, even when I get my cards from my new trade, I will still need 32 more for 15% of all Biggios.
greengrizzle 11-28-2008, 01:56 AM OK i know i have it for Ryan Zimmerman. I have dedicated almost all my spare time in trades all over the internet and on ebay and on wax to it. Traded all my other cards for zimmermans, i dont know even how to start listing or how to do this the easiest. On another site i have linked all my photos to a thread and they come up. i dont think that works on this site, or at least it didnt a month ago
jasoneggert 12-03-2008, 02:26 PM I had an idea for listing the Super Collectors threads in this forum. It might be a good idea to list the collectors ID followed by the player he/she collects in parenthesis. For example, the thread for me would be listed as jasoneggert (Jackie Robinson)
This might make it easier to navigate the list of Super Collectors.
Just an idea.

Andrew -
I'm not sure if I own 15% of all of the cards of Matt Holliday made, but I have no doubt that I probably have one of the most impressive Holliday collections:
Cards include:
2004 Team USA Rookie AU - # 001/375
2004 Team USA Rookie AU - SAMPLE (extremely RARE)
2007 UD Black - WHITE Printing Plate AU #1/1
2007 Topps 50th Anniversary PROOF Card (1/1 Blank Back) from Topps Vault
Various ALL Star GU Cards as well as other GU/AU cards #05/xx (his jersey #) , etc.
But where I should be given prime consideration a s SUPER Collector, I own:
2000 Colorado Rockies Spring Training Jersey (#84) - Matt's 1st MLB Spring Training - making this his 1st MLB jersey - AUTO'd
2007 All Star Jersey Authentic - AUTO'd
2008 All Star Jersey Authentic - AUTO'd
2006 All Star Hat Authentic - AUTO'd and inscribed - 1st All Star Game 2006
2005 GAME USED Rockies Hat - AUTO'd
2008 St Pat's Day Hat (Spring Training) - GAME USED & AUTO'd
2007 World Series Hat (the ONLY one he wore for all 4 games) - GU & AUTO'd w/ inscription - Game Used 1st World Series
Auto Ball
GU Auto Ball
2006 All Star Game Ball AUTO'd
2007 All Star Game Ball (Gold Band HR Derby Ball) AUTO'd w/ inscription 1st HR Derby
2007 World Series Ball AUTO'd
A Pair of GAME USED Batting Gloves
The ORIGINAL Artwork (with matting signed) of Matt's 2005 Donruss Damond Kings card - AUTO'd on matting by Matt
I understand your 15% standard, but sometimes there are and should be exceptions to the rules...
I would be glad to submit a complete 'Photo Essay' of my collection as well as a few pics of me with Matt for consideration.
As you can see from my list, i own quite a few 1/1 type pieces of memorabilia as well - and ALL of my AUTOs were obtained in person as well as the inscriptions.
All the best -
Chris
xpress34 12-10-2008, 07:27 PM Andrew -
I just saw I need to submit to BBonds...
I will cut and paste it to him...

labguy42 12-12-2008, 07:03 PM I would like to submit my Jim Thorpe collection. I know he played football and baseball so it may be a dual sport entry:
Jim Thorpe after 1955:
base 250/267- 94%
game used 108/117 (counting the 2008 upper deck icons lettermen) 92% not counting 1/1's
autos- 0
1/1's- 5
38 different 1st day covers
bunch of oddball cards not listed
multiples of most!!!
I am sure the value exceeds $15,000
PROOF:
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w136/labguy42/Thorpe%20extras/
TrueBlueLA4Life 12-13-2008, 12:34 AM I'll have to organize but here is a quick estimate of Matt Kemp and James Loney RC Bowman Chrome Auto's.
2005 Bowman Chrome Matt Kemp Auto's:
- 67 Chrome Base Autos'd
- 6 Refractor Auto's #'d/500
- 7 X-Fractor Auto's #'d/225
- 12 Blue Refractor Auto's #'d/150
- 5 Gold Refractor Auto's #'d/50
2006 Bowman Chrome James Loney RC Auto's:
- 59 Base Chrome Auto's
- 13 Refractor Auto's #'d/500
- 12 X-Fractor Auto's #'d/225
- 13 Blue Refarctor Auto's #'d/150
- 4 Gold Refractor Auto's #'d/50
- 2 Orange Refractor Auto's #'d/25
- 2 Red Refractor Auto's #'d/5
I also probably have close to 75% of all their cards ever made. I will have to go to beckett.com and spend some time looking them up, but I never really thought that I could be close to a super collection. The idea seems fun to do seeming that I am not to far away from completion. Thanks for the idea as well as the reference to beckett.com

BBonds25 01-06-2009, 02:28 PM lol. i've been there before
VintageHeros 01-07-2009, 12:46 AM Any idea if you'll ever include Set Collectors?
nolmtz99 01-12-2009, 09:13 PM Am I reading this correctly, are we not allowed to include moments and milestones and 1/1's to get to the 15%.
Pawelnj 02-09-2009, 10:42 AM i have easily over 50% of the relesed willingham auto's! Does that make me a supercollector of his?
Sundance Kid 03-18-2009, 01:41 PM I submitted my application a few days back. I still haven't heard anything. How long does the procedure usually take? Will the person submitting the application be notified even if they are not selected for the "SuperCollector" banner? I'm looking forward to hearing back from you. Thank you

You'll hear back either way. It usually takes a little while since we're all volunteering on here, and we want to make sure we give every application the proper attention.

jarcar 04-14-2009, 03:52 AM Just wondering if you received my PM? I sent it a few weeks ago. Thanks.
Dabigyankeeman 04-19-2009, 12:48 PM An awful lot of us are TEAM collectors, not player collectors. We have had a few posts in this thread asking about it, and they are all Yankees collectors. I am a Yankee collector too, it would be nice to see my collection and hard work acknowledged.
For instance, I have over 500 different Yankee cards just from 1959 and older. This part of my collection includes EVERY Bowman and EVERY Topps Yankee regular issue Yankee cards from 1959 and older, and a bunch of neat old tobacco cards, Diamond Stars, Play BAlls, Leafs, Berk Ross, Red Heart, etc.
I have multiple Ruths and Gehrighs and DiMaggios and EVERY regular issue Bowman and Topps Mantle from 1951 thru 1969. Most are lower condition, but i have them.
I have 90% of the Yankees from 1960 thru current, and that includes ALL the stars, its just some commons i dont have.
In addition, I have models of Yankee Stadium and many players (most Danbury Mint), and a lot of personally obtained autographs such as Mantle, Rizzuto, Ford, Reggie, Winfield, Catfish, and others.
I have a sign that used to hang in Yankee Stadium directing you to a few different places in the stadium, and a locker room plaque that hung in the clubhouse (both gotten from Steiner so you know they are real).
I have Yankee dvds and magazines and books.
I would imagine other collectors on this forum have team collections like this too, it would be nice to see team collectors recognized.
Heck, just the fact that i have every Mantle Bowman and Topps plus others like Red Heart, Dan Dee, etc, would make me quite a Mantle collector, but i dont consider myself a Mantle collector, i am a Yankees collector. Give some thought to team collector recognition too. If the answer is no, at least let us post what we have like i just did as i am proud of my Yankees collection.

IF you have every Mantle Bowman and Topps then you should apply for SC, havent seen anyone on here or another board with every Mantle! Good Luck! And you should post you collection and let Yankee fans check it out!

Thanks. Note that i said i have every regular card of his from 1951 thru 1969 (his last real card). I dont have many of the recent years inserts like the ones that look like 1955's with each home run and stuff like that, to me those are not real Mantle cards, to me, real cards are cards produced of a player WHILE HE WAS PLAYING and say the year after he retired so you can see all his whole career stats on it. So yeah, i do have virtually all the Mantle cards, i dont have the current ones, and i dont consider myself a Mantle collector, i am a Yankee collector. I could say the same thing about many major Yankees such as Ford or Berra, and i do have most of the Ruths, Gehrigs, and DiMaggios. So to me, i gotta be a Yankees collector, not an individual player collector. But thanks for you thinking of me.
daniel3417 04-20-2009, 01:54 PM Any chance this could open up for different sets (something more interesting than the annual Topps or Upper Deck base set).
For instance....my signature....:-)
stewart20rulz 04-22-2009, 05:44 PM I will bring this up to the rest of the baseball team to discuss team and set collections as possible super collections. I don't see why it has to be for player collections only. Can't promise anything though...
drays4life 04-22-2009, 06:08 PM I would also like to say that I would like it if you added team collectors. I don't have enough of any one player to make a super collection - I tried my James Shields collection and didn't make it, but I'm pretty sure I would make it in if you considered my entire team collection.
Socomwiz 05-01-2009, 09:42 PM I was wondering if any player collectors could share tips on how they do it. I just bought a lot of cards and want to find a smart way to keep track of what I have and don't have of a player.
Do you guys use any software or special websites? I have a free becket account and just discovered the organize feature. While I check that out I want to hear how you guys do it.
stewart20rulz 05-02-2009, 09:06 AM I use a spreadsheet and make my own checklist with it. I list cards of my player as they are released. I use Beckett to make my checklist. Organize" on Beckett is a good start for keeping track of your collection as well
Don
Socomwiz 05-02-2009, 02:25 PM That option is becoming more likely Don. As I've come to find that beckett won't let my add Manny Ramirez to "organize" because his collection is too large. It gives me an F5 error every time I try to add him. I'm going to play around with that and start adding indivdual cards because it lets me do that.
Any other way you guys out there are keeping track I'm intrested in hearing about it, large or small that would be cool. Thanks :)
epmiller 05-03-2009, 03:48 PM is there an actual application or what must i do to submit? leave a thread/pm? please lmk. thanks, eric
stewart20rulz 05-03-2009, 04:06 PM From first post in this thread:
Submit the above info to BBONDS25 via PM
is there an actual application or what must i do to submit? leave a thread/pm? please lmk. thanks, eric
stewart20rulz 05-03-2009, 04:07 PM At this time, we are only doing the supercollector program for player collections. Set and team collections can still be shown off in the Show and Tell forum

Bigbadbenny 07-20-2009, 08:00 PM Hi, This is my first post here & thought i'd drop a line. I collect Topps Finest Baseball. I have the base sets done from 1993 to 1996. This includes the silver and gold sets and the insert set in 1995. I'm currently working on the 1997 Finest Gold Series Two set. Just finished the series one set. But i do have sets and misc. stuff from the other years as well. I'm just working my way up through the years. The book value of my collection as of right now just passed 13K!! But i do have cards from other sports and brands that i'd be willing to trade to help with completing my sets. I guess i'm trying to say is that i'm an avid collector.
Thundering24 08-05-2009, 04:31 AM Is there no way around the % rule for supercollector? I lost my entire collection of Griffey Jr (and everything in a flood) a few yrs back. Re-built it to one of the most impressive I'd say anyone has of any player of this caliber, but I no longer buy base/inserts/low-end of his. Please just lmk when you have a few, if the rules are 'bendable' haha, I'll PM BBonds, thanks!

Beckett just changed things (about a month ago) and you can no longer see the 1/1 by themselves, they just list all the serial #'s together... that sucks.
lakotawolf 10-15-2009, 04:32 AM i dont understand why its limited to just one player

I think its Player "super collector" not autograph "super collector"... but very nice collection though!
Either way I submitted my Zito collection... so wish me luck!:cheer2:
