View Full Version : Thoughts on RBs and WRs
OnePimpTiger 12-10-2008, 12:51 PM I'm bored and checking out my fantasy options. This is our first week of the playoffs and I'm playing the #1 seed (I'm #4), so tell me who you think I should play at WR and RB
RBs (start 3):
Michael Turner @ TB
Chris Johnson @ HOU
Steven Jackson @ SEA
Larry Johnson @ SD
Kevin Smith @ IND
Pierre Thomas @ CHI
I'm pretty happy with my stable, just not sure who to start based on match ups and recent performance. Chris Johnson is a must start in my mind, but he's really the only one at this point.
WRs (start 3):
Steve Smith @ DEN
Hines Ward @ BAL
Kevin Walter @ TEN
Anthony Gonzalez @ DET
Mushin Muhammad @ DEN
Ike Hilliard @ ATL
Not as happy with my WRs (obviously). Smith is a must start and I'm leaning towards Gonzalez @ Det, Hilliard and Muhammad aren't really an option. Really the choice is two out of Ward, Walter, and Gonzalez.
BobNak26 12-10-2008, 01:18 PM thanks for the input on my post!
I think your obvious starts are Turner and Chris Johnson, as for the 3rd...i'm leaning towards steven jackson...he seems to still be a little dinged up, but STL might still be in the game and stick with the run, where as with Larry Johnson KC could go down early and abandon the running game.
For WR: Steve Smith, Kevin Walter, and...Muhammad might not be a bad pick, Gonzalez usually, but if Indy goes up big vs. Det. they might not pass as much, but hopefully they go up big early with some passes to Gonzo and ya scoop up some points...stick with anthony gonzalez for your third.
Goodluck!
dallascisco 12-10-2008, 01:33 PM johnson, jackson, smith
smith, ward, walter
john1170 12-10-2008, 03:57 PM Michael Turner(he is the only one of these 3 I would consider benching but the alternatives aren't any better so go with the guy who has produced all year)
Steven Jackson(finally healthy, should have a big game)
Chris Johnson(no brainer)
Steve Smith(no brainer)
Kevin Walter(with AJ getting the double teams, Walter has flourished this year)
Anthony Gonzalez(tough call but have to go with Gonzalez based on the fact that Manning is rolling now and likes to throw to him)
BradyToMoss 12-10-2008, 04:00 PM I'd go with Johnson, Jackson, Turner at RB and Smith, Ward and Gonzo at WR.
OnePimpTiger 12-12-2008, 10:56 AM Thanks for the post guys. For some reason, I had a gut feeling I should play Pierre Thomas, but I didn't because my brain told me not to. 25 fantasy points....argh!
Let me ask this, does anybody play scoring trends? For example, in the past 7 weeks, Walter has had a good game, then a bad game, then a good game, then a bad game. Last week was a good game, does that mean this week should be a bad game? Obviously it's not set in stone, but is that a trend to pay attention to? Likewise, since the beginning of the season, Ward has had two good games, then two bad games, then two good, two bad...he's had three bad now, is he due for a good game? I usually look at that somewhat, but don't put a lot of stock in it, just curious what you guys think.
Oh and I also picked up Deion Branch off the waiver wire...and chance I should start him?

i wouldn't start deion...he only played good because he hates new england...too bad you didnt start pierre...he does what bush does, except he can actually find a hole when he's running
as far as trends, i do pay attention to that...i do look for patterns like you mention, but i check pretty much everything when comparing 2 guys for who to start...yesterday i was debating barberrian or hester...and i check all kinds of things like how hester does on prime time, how he does in cold weather, how barberrian does on turf, etc....i ended up going with hester because i barberrian was a non-factor the first 2 weeks of the season when tarvaris jackson was the qb....too bad we dont get points for pass interference yards or hester would've had a nice game for me....but the most important thing to check for is the defense they will be facing....for instance, im starting sammy morris this weekend even though i normally wouldnt but he's playing against Oakland who gives up like 160 yards rushing per game...im also contemplating benching randy moss because he'll have nnamdi covering him all game
OnePimpTiger 12-12-2008, 12:54 PM Do you just follow me around wherever I go? :confused0024::wave:
I don't think Branch is a solid option either, especially if Wallace starts at QB. But they are playing the Rams...you don't have to hate them to have a good game.
I don't go quite that in depth, but I do look at a lot of things...how the team as a whole is playing, the defense they're against, how well the defense plays against the run an pass (ie will the have to rely on one over the other), etc. The defense and how the player has done the past few weeks is what I focus on the most.
