View Full Version : My first experience with a card collectors worst nightmare...
HerdsMan87 12-30-2008, 10:13 PM PWE!?!?!
ARGH! and the one card I didn't think someone would ship in a plain white envelope. $50+ dollar card in a PWE...i just bought a card for .50 and i got a bubble mailer in that one. $1.95 shipping gets you a plain white envelope with a card in a top loader wrapped in paper!?!?! And now there is a nice crease from the right side of the RU tire to the end of the card on the right side....But here is the card...before it was shipped. auction said it was in perfect condition so it must have happened during shipping:

Not sure what I'm gonna do yet. I sent the seller an e-mail earlier...i'm just waiting on his response....:confused0024:
dalejr88 12-30-2008, 11:03 PM Sorry to hear that! I would be really ticked off! I don't understand some people and their shipping methods! :mad2:
owen21 12-30-2008, 11:07 PM I finally worked out what PWE is!!!!
no wonder you are ******....
ashley8318 12-30-2008, 11:25 PM Like I said earlier, thats really bad. Hopefully the seller wont be a meanie to you. lol

THOSE PEOPLE ARE CHEAP AND STUPID.............
messing up great cards makes me mad, sorry man!!!!
Lesracing 12-31-2008, 04:18 AM Bummer to hear about your experience.
May I offer you a suggestion? Before bidding on an auction, write to the seller and ask HOW they will send the card if you decide to bid and win. If it is too late because you have already bid, if you win, write to the seller BEFORE paying for the card and ask how it will be shipped. If they say they only ship via a PWE, then make a special request for your cards to be sent using a bubble mailer or better packaging. I have been doing this for awhile now and to date I have only had a few that did not reply, or said they only ship in PWE but I could pay extra and they would ship in a bubble. Once I know a seller that will not protect the cards during shipping, I will not use them again and put them on my personal "do not buy from again" list, lol.
Sorry to hear that your card was damaged. I hope you can get your money back and try for another one of the 98 cards that may be available.

Great suggestion, Les. I'm always afraid that when I buy on Ebay they'll send in a PWE if its someone I havent bought from before.

stlmkiiisupra 12-31-2008, 02:58 PM It's not always just PWE damage though. I once bought an auto and the guy put it in a toploader and then in a very large sandwich bag. The card slid out of the toploader and smashed a corner in the bag. He had packed the bag in a box large enough to hold two blasters, and filled it with packaging peanuts. In a nice gesture, he had also sent me a few inserts of my driver as a bonus, but just placed them in the middle of the peanuts unprotected. I did get a refund, and sent the box back with the auto packaged like he had done, but placed all the bonus cards in sleeves, toploaders, and a team bag. Hopefully that will shed some light on his future packaging. It's not always laziness or cheap sellers, sometimes it is just incompetence.
doG sI kcivraH 12-31-2008, 08:10 PM That's BS man!! I get fired up reading that stuff!! Personally, I always ship a card in a toploader (loose sleeve optional), inside of a team bag so it can't come out and always ALWAYS in a bubble mailer!!! I'd be going crazy right now if I were you.

gladdyontherise 01-01-2009, 10:06 AM thats a bummer :(
StillBig20Fan 01-01-2009, 01:24 PM I had that happen with a bat card of Dave Parker (one of my childhood favorites). Thankfully it was only a corner but it was mauled. I think I only paid $2 + s&h but I was thoroughly ****** (not sure if I can say that or not but I was LOL). I can imagine the anger you are feeling because if I had paid that kinda money for a Stewart and that happened, I'd have come unglued.
Ripken8fan55 01-01-2009, 04:30 PM Wow, that`s an absolute bummer!! Hope it all works out for you!

speedaddicts 01-01-2009, 06:09 PM Was there any tape on the top of the toploader to keep the card from sliding out? I've mailed a ton of cards in white envelopes with strong tape on the top of the top loader, and I've never had a single complaint.
If a card is worth $10 or more, I will mail in a bubble envelope. but still never had anything get damaged with the tape.....

wolf1bh 01-04-2009, 05:07 PM that stinks that looks like a sweet card. i always use ultra pro magnetic cases for any card over $20 i ship.
munozqc886 01-05-2009, 01:53 PM I made it a point in my auction listings that I do NOT use plain white envelopes, and ship all in sleeve,toploader-teambag-with cardboard inserts to stiffen up teambag, inside bubblemailer. Some sellers have no clue about the hobby, and how we treasure our cards. I just received a email this morning from a seller who recently sent me in plain white envelope, and he thanked me for my suggestion os using bubble mailers and finding them on ebay in bulk at very reasonable price. He was very courteous after our commnunication, I left him positive feedback with recommendation for bubble mailers.
scodellaro16 01-05-2009, 02:38 PM man that's awful, epsecially since its such a nice card. i've never sent any card in a PWE. i dont understand what he was thinking, he got $50 for the card seems like he wouldn't mind spending a extra $ or two to protect it.

I make it a point to actually read the feedback, especially if I see any negatives. If I see a negative I see what the person wrote, and then check that persons feedback, cause some noob buyers are not familiar with the process either.
HerdsMan87 01-16-2009, 01:45 AM Ok, I figured I would give you guys an update. I opened a Pay Pal claim, I didn't leave feedback yet. He had 10 days to respond to the PayPal e-mails about the case, which he never did. I got a message from him telling me he didn't get the e-mails because they went to his spam folder so he didn't see them. He said he reported it to paypal and they where looking into it. Told me to send the card back, which i gladly will, and then he opened a non paying ebay claim. The money hasn't showed up in the pay pal account yet. said it takes 7 days. won the case yesterday i believe. Am I ok here? just wondering since its the first time i'm going through this. thanks
Lesracing 01-16-2009, 03:14 AM If there is a PayPal Buyer Protection logo in his auctions, you will be covered provided that they found in your favor. Even if he doesn't have the money in his PayPal account to cover it, PayPal will refund you in full.
Good luck!!!

Lesracing 01-17-2009, 09:17 PM Wow! Very distrubing to hear that this wasn't handled better by the seller. Especially since in the feedback I see many previous buyer ID's of members that I recognize from several trading sites I belong too. Kinda Sad really!
this doesn;t help your situation now, but one suggestion for the future might be that if you see people that have purchased from the person in the past that you may know, send them an email asking how their experience was. I did see while looking at the feedback several postive feedbacks that had info hinting at a potential problem with how the items arrived:
slow 22days slow but I like it & Igot what I want =#*~()^%*NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
finaly got my card today took for ever and paid 1.95 for .39 cent envelope?
Shipped safe & Sound....In A White Envelpe....Thanks......
card did arrive safely..paid for insurance shipped in reg. envelope .37 stamp!
While these feedback comments are all either Positive or Neutral, they lend a hint of questionable packaging. You should always look at a potential members feedback comment, not just the numbers which make this seller look great.
Good luck and keep us updated.
