WAYNE GRETZKY IS TRUELY THE GREAT ONE.. AS MUCH AS I DONT LIKE HIM AFTER HE HIGH STICKED DOUG GILMOUR IN THE PLAYOFFS.. NEVER GOT A PENALTY AND SCORED THE WINNING GOAL TO SEND MY LEAFS TO ANOTHER SUMMER ON THE LINKS

SECONDLY WOULD HAVE TO BE MARIO LEMIEUX..
AND THIRDLY I THINK I HAVE TO GO WITH BOBBY ORR

Gretzky has all the records put so far out of reach that it's mind-boggling (much like what Jerry Rice has done). Plus he's won Stanley Cups, and all the awards.

It's got to be Gretzky, hands down.

I'm still waiting on someone to tell me why Lemieux is so great... just because he played in a crappy hockey town and scored some goals doesn't make him great.

A great to me is someone who can win a game when it really counts. Can you guess how many playoff overtime game-winning goals Lemiuex has?

I don't get it either. Mario was a great player but I don't think that he was as good as people claim he is. Now I don't watch that much hockey but I have heard people say that he was better than Gretzky and that is just insane. Gretzky broke so many records that will never be broken that nobody can deny that he was the greatest hockey player without lying.

Gretzky is indeed the greatest of all time. One of my all time favorite players was one who i believe was greatly underrated. That player was Mike Bossy. Only played 10 yrs and scored 50 every year except his last due to the career ending back injury. If he had stayed healthy and played another 5 yrs he would have had over 700 goals in his career.

Gretzky
Lemieux
Orr
Howe
Roy
Brodeur

How many of those guys are Canadians??

and I thought that Canada was a useless country

Canada owns Hockey and has the greatest people in the world (well that is debatable but.)

all you lemieux naysayers out there dont even get me started on mario. you cannot deny what the man has done. im not saying mario is better than gretzky, but he had more raw talent by far. gretzky was surrounded by great players early in his career, while mario got to play with terry ruskowski and warren young. bottom line, mario saved hockey in pittsburgh IGGY whether you want to admit it or not.

if mario had stayed healthey his whole career and played around 18-20 seasons the goal record that gretzky holds would be his. too bad he was plagued by all those problems.

Only reason why Wayne got so many records was the players he played with. Mario had no one "special" for most of his career until he found Jagr. He was also plagued with cancer! If he had been as healthy as Gretzky, and had the same supporting staff, or at least better then he had, he would be leading all time scorer for sure. He has more points per game then Gretzky anyway.

I've never heard of normand levier

and it don't matter.

To be consider amongst the greats of the game, you have to accomplish something noteworthy.

Potential only means you are given a chance to play in the big leagues.

But potential will not get you into the company of Gretzky, Lemieux, etc.
