View Full Version : Have you ever wondered...
Lesracing 01-25-2009, 11:14 PM Have you ever wondered… what happened to some of the traders you have dealt with in the past? Over many years, I have traded with so many different people from all over the US and other countries that I can’t remember everybody’s names, although I still have trade info from allot of them (yep, I’m a cyber packrat, lol). However, I often times think about some of the great friends I have made through the years that have just “faded away” from the hobby rather then plain old giving up collecting.
Going back several years ago at a ‘wild west’ trading site, I used to trade with a teenager named Jeremy Gordon (Sedtag). Jeremy was a Jeff Gordon collector and loved making trades for cards for his collections. But he found that as a teenager trying to collect racing cards of his driver, it was time consuming and expensive. However, Jeremy had big dreams, he wanted to be a race car driver and hoped to someday make it to the Nascar Cup Series.
One day, Jeremy made his decision to try and race for one season to see how he liked it and he was hooked. While he still hung around the trading site and made a few occasional trades, all of his time and money was taken up between school, buying a car and parts so that he could race at the local tracks. Working with his father’s help building, repairing and crewing, Jeremy raced his first season and loved it. During his first season, even though Jeremy wasn’t able to make allot of trades due to his finances, he posted updates after each race he had with details about how he did and what was on the schedule for the next race. I really enjoyed reading his comments and feelings about that last race and his goals for the upcoming race. He had a passion and it showed in his posts.
Sadly, after that site closed down, I lost contact with Jeremy. I had tried to contact him on numerous occasions but he must have gotten another email address. Just by a stroke of weird luck, I was going through some racing websites reading some interesting facts and came across info concerning Jeremy. It seems as he has done pretty well in the years since the days at the old Sheriff site.
“2008 hobby stock point champion Jeremy Gordon of Sedalia faced strong competition from Ronnie Livengood, also from Sedalia. Gordon ended up first at the finish line and secured his position of highest point holder of all divisions of the 2008 season.”
I found this as well as the season standings in this racingboys.com article here: http://www.racinboys.com/home/article_view/article/r_7903 (http://www.racinboys.com/home/article_view/article/r_7903)
It looks like Jeremy has earned some nice accolades during the 2008 season:
2008 hobby stock point award 1st place - Jeremy Gordon - Sedalia MO - 1154 points
2008 Perfect Attendance Award Jeremy Gordon - Sedalia MO
I may have some contact info for Jeremy now thanks to the help of the website mods and just maybe I can reunite with Jeremy as a friend, as well as a card collector for old time sake. This may just be the start of finding some of my old friends that I haven’t been in contact with for years. I still look forward to seeing him come up to the big time and would definitely add him to my collections. Then I could say… “I knew him back when he was just a kid collecting racing trading cards”.
I can’t speak for each of you, but I just wanted to say that I’m very thankful for having met each of you and having you as part of my life. Sometimes we take our hobby for granted and just think we are making a trade to get a card we need for our collections. Every time I make a trade, I’m doing more then just adding a card to my collection, but rather making a new friend that is helping me to grow my collections, but be a friend now and forever.
race crazy 01-26-2009, 12:38 AM sweet story Les! Yeah some of the best people on the planet are racing card collectors I think! This site along with nuts has been nothing but a positive for me! I used to think I was the only one who even cared about racing cards haha.
nadeau01_johnson48 01-26-2009, 12:48 AM I remember Jeremy!
You know, for some reason, his screenname came to mind a couple of days ago....I'm pretty sure he's on this site. I think I recall seeing him on the Current Users Online list.

Awesome PI work Les, I've dealt with Jeremy before too, and your right it would be cool to one day start a collection of his cards and say the guy on this card used to trade cards with me.
Thanks for sharing that....
BTW....His ID is sedtag1 on SCF
Lesracing 01-26-2009, 04:13 AM YES... I see that Jeremy is indeed here at SCF! Of course I must have missed his posts when he first came over. Now just where is my buddy??? lol
Thanks for that heads up. I'll send him a PM now!!!
sedtag1 01-26-2009, 04:43 AM Wow, I walked into this post and it made me smile more then Ive been able to smile since that last night of racing for me during the 2008 racing season. I was informed by email I had a message waiting for me on the board, but never would I have expected this. This is just too cool. Thankyou Les! I have missed all of you guys from previous boards tremendously. Back then that was my life, was making new friends and getting to know each and every one of you. And I enjoyed getting to share these exciting changes which have come about in my life.
However, I was saddened when the old bored closed, and I lost track of everything that had to do with trading. Id gotten busy with School.. working hard to get the grades that i desired to get passed my senior year. I also took on a good job for a youngster just looking to make a little extra money working at a grocerry store. But onlooking that, It has helped finance a great racing team. Ive been having a blast. And I am learning a lot of responsibility a long the way. I would ABSOLUTELY love to share some of my racing experiences with you guys. As this last year was incredible looking back. But the hard work that went into being at the track Fridays and Sundays everyweekend was exausting. But happy to say, it all payed off. The sponsorship help I recieved was amazing, as well as the support I recieved from friends and family. They helped me put this thing together and I could have never done it without them. And wwe wont stop here.. hopefully WE can keep going. I would love to up myself a few divisions in a few years when i can build up a good fund. But man, I tell you what, with the sparkel I get in my eyes, and the thump I get in my chest before a race, it is worth every penny!
Thanks again so much for this post les! I would love to try and keep anyone who is willing to listen informed on how things are going. I have videos as well as photos out of the WAZZOU from last year and previous years of my racing experiences.. and as Les said, there are always great sources on the internet that keep up with our local racetracks.
ashley8318 01-26-2009, 08:49 AM Great story, Les! Thanks for sharing it. And HI JEREMY. :)

:party0053:Congratulations Bud, Great Job!!!:party0053:
Question; How does one go about getting one of your Driver Handouts?
Keep up the Good work,
Scott

Lea DeFoote 01-27-2009, 01:13 AM Hey Jeremy-
Congrats on your success in 2008! Looks like a lot of fun. Hope 2009 goes as well, or even better!
Question; How does one go about getting one of your Driver Handouts?
I was thinking the same thing.

sedtag1 01-27-2009, 06:19 AM Question; How does one go about getting one of your Driver Handouts?
Well, the Handouts were actually just letters written to Sponsors and Supporters that helped me through the season. Basically told them how I achieved my goals and kept them up to date on how awesome are season had gone. However, I also included a picture (the bottom picture above with me infront of the car with my hardware) to show them what we had gotten out of it. Figured this way they would have something to frame and put up in there shop, business, or wherever if they wanted.
Now I do have extra pictures laying around if anyones interested. Id be honored to work something out, hell, id even sign'er for yah. haha. Otherwise, your more then welcome to take them off of here and have them printed if you like. One day though, I will try to get an OFFICIAL handout like we see given out by nascar drivers with stats on the back and stuff. Those are pretty stinkin cool! But Id say it will be sometime before I will have anything quite like that to give out. However, theres nothing wrong with dreaming that one day the day might come! :winking0071:

Pheebs888 01-27-2009, 12:44 PM This would be great material for an article in the next mag...PMs coming!
Shayne1911 01-27-2009, 06:35 PM Great story, Les!
Hello Jeremy!! :)
Lesracing 01-28-2009, 12:28 AM Awesome Jeremy! Glad to see you are around and hope to hear more from you in the coming season. I know I really used to enjoy hearing about each race and what goals were set for the next race.
You have done very well to date, but there are bigger and better things still to happen in your future!!! Best wishes for you in the 2009 season and we hope to hear lots of updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Cormack... why of course I remember you!!! I recall trying to convince you to take on the Brickyard when they tried forcing you to give up your website, but you let them jerks bully you. DRATS! I hadn't heard from you for quite awhile and have missed ya as well. I hope things are going well for you and you are here having some fun!!!
Sadly, I missed out on allot of my old friends for a bit over a year. I tried to stay up to date as much as possible, but with so many things happening at one time between the website issues and my own family issues, I'm just trying to get back in touch with many I have missed. I'm glad to see Jeremy, James and everyone else that has contacted me since I wrote my little story here. It's been great hearing from all of you and looking forward to hearing from many more. I'm always just an email away! :winking0071:
And with a bit of sad news, I'm not sure how many members here had traded with John Garvey (jg_gb7 ???) over the years, but I have since learned that John was killed by a drunk driver on October 1, 2007. Sadly, I never knew this due to spending so much of my time away from the computer taking care of my father and my son during this period. I had written to the last email address I had on file for him just to see how he had been doing since i hadn't kept in touch with him for so long. I knew I hadn't talked to him for awhile and just wanted to see where he was doing his trading now. I received a very nice reply to my email from his granddaughter. She said that her grandmother had read my email and asked her to reply to me.
After seeing the above replies and getting the email from Essy about her pop-pop, it's got me thinking about how time has flown by for me these past few years and just how much my life has changed in just the last 22 months (website changes, friends & family I've lost, time gone that can't be replaced, etc).
I'm glad to see some of the great old "faces" are still here along with many new friends to trade with and just talk with for many years to come.
Welcome to all my old & new friends. Glad to see you all and the warm feelings are coming back!
