If it hurts catching it, it should :)

That's why you take a glove! Catching a fly ball bare handed really doesn't hurt that much, but when you're in a crowd of people and have to stick your hand up and pray, that does sting. I had a ball from the '92 NLCS of Pirates vs Braves (the Sid Bream sliding year) from game 2, but gave it to a little kid sitting by me. It hit him and fell on the ground so i picked it up. I felt bad cause he was crying... he shut up real quick when I gave him the ball though. Damn I was a nice 11 year old!

First base side about 20 rows back. It was just a little bloop foul ball but people weren't really expecting it so it hit this kid.

I was about ten rows back from 1st base at Yankee stadium in '92 or '91. They were playing the Mariners. I came back from buying food and on my way into the stands I heard a roar from the crowd. I came back and my sister was shaking her hand, yelling "Ow." Ken Griffey Jr.'s foul ball came right at my seat (when I wasn't there) and my sister couldn't get it. A guy and his son were behind us and it nearly landed in their lap after my sister deflected it. What made me even more angry is the father and son LEFT THE GAME after securing the ball.

I was at comisky or however they spell it, where the scrubs play, the sox are playing the twins and I am sitting in LF about 10 rows back by the foul pole talking trash with some yankees fans. To set the stage my boy is on the mound LaTroy Hawkins and throwing these helluva spliters, but they are dropping out of the sky the twins are winning 4-1 bottome of the ninth and he walked the man on 1 and 2nd and frankie t could tie the game with a jack, I am nervous as hell as I have seen him do it time and time again v/s the twins. The next pitch he hit one deep right in my real freaking seat I am so pissed but it went foul. so I guess that was the best time I didn't get to catch the ball, what happened he ended up flying out deep on the track to a jumping Jacque jones to end the game.

i once caught a ball @ a little league game and got a ball of popcorn for returning it. The good ole days.

Now that I think about it someone posted a thread a while ago talking about who had the best farm system and now it might be the yankees they trade all their prospects for stars. They traded knoblauch for milton, guzman and some other guy I am thinking romero.

I did get a ball but it was before a Yankee game. Shamelessly I bought a book by a kid who had like a gazillion baseballs. I followed his advice and went to Yankee Stadium during batting practice. Some Yankee (Wells? Just kidding) hit one over the right field fence but not in the bleachers. Some groundscrew keeper got it and tossed it in my direction, missed the person he intended to throw it too and I went diving and bruising after it.

LOL, nice story Plunge. People go to extreme lengths just to get a ball a lot of the time.

It was a compulsion for me. When the Mets were getting slaughtered, I'd move up in my seats because people would leave. Depending on which side of the plate the current batter was hitting from, I'd move over to the side where I could snag a foul ball. I still think this way when I'm at a game, depending on which side I'm on.

I've tried that. Actually I've gone to the corners of the orange field box area and plead shamelessly with others to the outfielders or sometimes John Franco. They always give the ball to the youngest in a crowd. I can't wait to bring my son to a game. He's only 6 months so you can't get younger than that at a game!

The only time I ever caught a ball was a HR at batting practice in Yankee stadium but that doesn't really count. Never caught one during the actual game though

The closest I've ever come to catching anything at a game was a t-shirt from the Pepsi party patrol at Shea Stadium in the last row of the Field level. The guy in front of me snagged it from me... dammit! ;)

Despite all the games I go to, no baseballs yet... maybe some day.
