So after dinner with a friend a few weeks back, we made the terrible decision to go to the Upper Deck store. It's terrible because first, you have to find parking in the Bella Terra shopping center, which always makes me feel a little less human, and second, I might buy something. And of course, since I'm posting, I bought something.
I walked in with this attitude like, oh a few packs, but that became moot when I saw that a bunch of the packs and boxes were 30% off. Then I learned that it was the UD store's anniversary, and one item was an additional 25% off, and the idea of a few packs was mooted off the face of the planet. I thought 07-08 was the better draft year, plus I'm not so much for the GU'd stuff anymore, so I got a box of 07-08 BAP for $55 out the door.
I forget all the sigs, I'll have to update this post later, but I remember cursing at the damaged Phaneuf signature. There was also a Naslund, Luongo dual and a Gilbert rc /99 as well as a redemption for what becomes a D'Agostini rc /99. So the box overall was very canadian, which I don't care for. How NHL network can show me Toronto @ Ottawa or whatever instead of Bruins-Sharks is beyond me. I digress.
In addition, I got three packs of 09 Black Diamond. This asian kid tending counter fanned the packs out for me, but I rejected his implication that I pick the packs, because (at least, I feel) I don't know Luck and he definitely doesn't know me. So you pick them, I said, he did, and here's what he chose:

Roloson Quad Jersey /100 (all blue)
Sakic Quad diamond
Berglund QD RC
A way more satisfying hobby meal than the BAP box, for some reason.
Skip ahead to last night, same kind of excursion, with a different friend and a pre-hardened mindset against buying a box. Same asian kid at the counter. I skipped ahead in the ritual and just told him to pick them straight off.
4 packs of UD, 4 packs of BD
The black diamond yielded two parise double diamonds, and a horton double. Disgusted, I turned to the Upper Deck.

Yeah ok, false alarm. My buddy opened the last UD pack, pulling open the foil and looking inside. So I ask him, "white or grey?" Decoys being the grey, obviously.
He says, "White, but it's thick."
which turned out to be
ERIK COLE UD GAME PATCHES! 5/15 Is this good? Are mixed feelings a normal response!
Ok, I kid. It was actually Mike Richards, 5/15, which appears to be a case hit at 1:864. So I was very happy with this, yes, but I realize this is probably the worst possible thing that could've happened because now I'll be back to buy more, and the memory of this hit is going to egg me into a next pack, and a next pack, in search of more dumb coicidence. However, the asian kid is now officially my pack picker. I told him so.
