I was looking at buying a tin of UD BLACK on ebay. The guy has a few and is selling them for $179. Is this a good buy or would I be taking a huge chance at pulling garbage like a $20 jersey? Thanks

Thanks SkidSTL 03-25-2009, 03:39 AM high risk/high reward. 2 packs of 2 cards each. one rookie letterman in each pack. so that leaves you with a shot at only two non-rookie cards. you could pull 2 base jersey cards, you could pull two awesome cards. i've found they go on sale at blowoutcards over the weekend quite a bit for like 165-170USD w/free shipping. good luck! cprince80 03-25-2009, 03:44 AM Thanks.Im still not sure if ill go for it yet. I do like the cards though. side note I have #50 masterpiece blue border 30ranfordfan 03-25-2009, 09:32 AM Really nice product, but for $160-$180 (the typical price range) you can probably buy 3 or 4 reall nice Black singles instead. Not quite as fun, but unless you're collecting Cosby / Malkin / Ovechkin (or other big names) you'll get way more bang for you buck getting the singles. Raptor 03-25-2009, 09:35 AM i bought one box and got the brassard auto letterman and a paul kariya 4 color patch and the other 2 were crap Nashrules 03-25-2009, 10:22 AM I too got one box. Hit the Voracek Redemption /99, and a larry Robinson Patch auto. A letter Im sending to Raptor in trade, and a quad jersey of Peter Forsberg worth about $10. cprince80 03-25-2009, 12:42 PM Hmm Thanks for the replies. I might just end up getting a single in that case. After hearing all the talk of box searching and such Im a little leary of parting with that much cash for a box. I do have that treasure hunter gene though I love the surprise lol It's good to here what people actually pulled out of their boxes. Nashrules 03-25-2009, 12:49 PM Hmm Thanks for the replies. You cant search these. the "packs" are sealed within sealed box. any tampering would be completely obvious. If you want to wait a week, SP Authentic is out next week. cprince80 03-25-2009, 01:09 PM I was talking about box searching I have read there are ways tell tell hot boxes without opening. IDK Im paranoid about these things. My card guy was telling me a lot of different tricks that have been used aswell like buying a case and opening untill you get the case hit then selling off the rest . I think I may just go with the spa Nashrules 03-25-2009, 01:23 PM I was talking about box searching I have read there are ways tell tell hot boxes without opening. IDK Im paranoid about these things. Opening a lot of high end stuff, unless you hit well, ends up costing a card shop money because people will always buy boxes, but not always buy average singles. 30ranfordfan 03-25-2009, 01:46 PM That's very true... as soon as you bust Wax, it almost always loses its resale value. At the same time.... for the collector who's looking to recoup some of his costs, busting 'X' number of boxes in a case, until he gets all the case hits.... and then selling the remaining boxes is an easy way to do it. If buying boxes from actual online dealers, I wouldn't be too worried about that happening.... but random "box for sale" people on eBay, I'd be a little leery of; especially with the high end stuff.
