The NHL posts on its website, "If the Playoffs were to start today," and then lists the matchups if the season, indeed, were to end today.

Some interesting matchups, but of course, there's more than a few teams in the hunt yet, who can play spoiler and/or move up into the playoff mix.
An interesting concept, all the same, however.

I think that would be the best match up.
the three top guys in one series, i think someone would be carried off the ice on a strecher, and I dont think I t would be ovechkin...or malkin, if they dont meet this year , they will meet one day in the play offs n ill be waiting....im from toronto Id rather see that series then the Leafs WINNING the cup....

why would you think someone would be carried out on a stretcher? neither team is very physical

I think the Philly Carolina one will be a good one. With Cole and Staal back together. and the scoring of Carter and Richards.

I personally don't see this as much of a matchup (sorry). I think the Pen's would clean their clock. I love ovie, semin, green, etc. But I do not think until they add a few more pieces to their puzzle could they knock of the pen's in a series. That juts my opinion.
As for a series to watch due to the animosity yes it would be great. But I like to see Ovie actually dish it out and get his team over the hump instead of scoring goals. Who cares about scoring if your at home and not going deep in the playoffs no matter how exciting you are. There are so many great players that do not get put into that next echelon as they never made it to THE CUP. Hopefully, Ovie will do everything in his power to make this happen by restructuring his contract, being great friends for his teammates, etc.
