Hey gang,
Just a little bit of news concerning the 2009 Press Pass Premium release due to go live on April 22, 2009.
As most of you know, in the past the Press Pass Premium release has always been the first product to feature autograph cards (Press Pass Signings) with all new photography for each of the drivers in their new uniforms with their new teams and their new “colors”. Premium has always started the kick off of the Press Pass Signings release that is inserted over the balance of the Press Pass racing releases through the end of the year.
This year… that isn’t going to happen. The 2009 PP Premium release will have a set of autograph cards called “Premium Signatures” and will only be found in the Premium release. The card images looked great, and they were specially designed to look good, with a sticker autograph on them. The reason is because there were so many drivers (30+) this year that changed teams, cars, sponsors, etc. and it just wasn’t feasible to be able to design the cards, get team/sponsor approvals, add all new photography, produce and send out the cards to be signed and returned in time for the release.
I know some of you will say… “STICKERS… UGGGH!!! We hate sticker autographs”. Well… you may be right, BUT…. would you want to have an autograph on this year’s card with drivers last year’s photos, or would you rather have all new photos with the drivers in their current teams/uniforms? Easy answer for me, let’s have all new photos. And some of these drivers we know take forever to get the cards autographed and return on time. Dale Jr comes to mind, and personally, I’d rather actually PULL the card and have his auto on a sticker card then have to wait a couple of years to get a redemption card. Another bonus with the Premium Signatures, NO legends drivers, crew chiefs, etc to be in this set, it will be all cup series drivers.
So, Press Pass has stated that the Premium Signatures release will be a one time deal having sticker autos on the cards. The next signings release will have autos ON THE CARD! That and it only having top drivers has to be a plus.
