My guess is it will be something like this. Last year TB had the # 1 overall pick. UD acquired the nameplate they inserted by Tampa Bay with "Stamkos" up on the huge draft board on stage. They then cut it into pieces and had Stamkos sign it.

Not exactly cutting edge or out of this world ingenuity but different for sure so I'll give them that.

As far as the rest of the stuff, ho hum on the sets but I am interested to see the designs. Obviously you know you will get your "core" cards every year in this product (Limited Logos, Scripted Swatches, Honorable Numbers, etc) but what it comes down to now is the design.

Hopefully the checklists are deep and they didn't forget the rookies in any subsets this year.

Are you sure you should be opening the cup this year?? Sounds like you might want to lay off of it for a bit, go cold turkey, if it makes your heart rate rise and sweat pour from your skin. :sign0020:

UD has a great opportunity to make this a solid product, but they have struggled with their rookie selection so far this season.

If Ultimate is any indication, Max Pacioretty, Simeon Varlamov, and Justin Pogge may not even be patch/auto RCs. Non of them had auto RCs in Ultimate Collection.

This is a rookie crop that has a lot of talent, spread around, which if UD does a good job, would make for far fewer kick in the junk breaks. If UD doesn't do their homework, however, this could be a rough break.

At least it sounds like they are cutting production this year, which should help case breakers.

well to be fair atleast in the case of Varlamov he got no exposure until like 10 days before ultimate came out. He had played in like 5 games before then.

honestly, its 100% obvious varlamov wont be a patch auto. it was way too late. he only became a big rookie during the playoffs

Just got my confirmed allocation on The Cup and it's not good....usually I get 3 cases a year...this year, it's been dropped to only one. This means I cannot do a case group break at this time. All I can do is a couple of individual tins as a group break...

I liked last year's designs better. *shrugs*

yeah, last year's design was better, but finally the 1/1 NHL shield looks better. Because I don'T like when the card can contains only the shield (they cut the card's front that way) and the shield is misdirected. Now this, with the more swatch around it looks better.
I have to save some money, I've never opened any box, maybe I should start with the Cup!

I'm the same, I don't want to write down how much do I have to save to get one box. But this is a thing what you have to try out. At first round, if you pull a great card, it's perfect. I'm just scared a bit, because that's too much money for me, and if I burn, I'll be very sad. It'd be a big loss for me.

I find that the more money you spend, the more rewards you will reap. For instance, I broke a box of OPC Premier and while I didn't get anything PC, I was able to acquire some great stuff in trades.

dibs on the Brodeur emblem of endorsement lol. They missed the boat on the OPC Premier stitching but at least 552 is acknowledged in the cup. Love the way the Stanley Cup signatures look like last year's chirography with the black background.

Things I'll give it up for:

The Lemieux Honorable Numbers with the Stanley Cup Finals Patch swatches, the Gordon Howe with the Aeroes swatches and Brodeur with his inscription.

The base cards also look much better, especially the parallel black 1/1's.

Other than that, ho hum...................

Something said (I think on the Facebook site) that they were bumping it back a week, but I am not sure.

Either way, the national convention is at the end of the month, and they would be stupid to not have The Cup out by then.

Kevin is correct, as of now the packout is slated for that week of the 13th.

It might even the week after depending what is in house and isn't but it looks to be a go that week and should take the usual 3-4 days to complete.

They advertise 4 cards per tin, but history has shown that they average closer to 5 cards per tin. There are only 4 cards if there is a larger hit in the tin. At least, that's what's happened in the past.

yeah that sounds like ud. i want to buy some of this product, but i want to know if any mike richards cards'll be in there. he hasn't had any cup cards since his rookie year and that'll determine how much i buy.

I believe both he and Carter signed with UD late in the season after a prolonged absence, so there'll probably be a fair bit of both.

Of course a checklist would be nice at $400/tin, just to be sure.

I think that the design this year really detracts from the true essence of what the cup was in 0506...solid....hardcore....awesome. Now it looks like rehashes UD designs...too bad.

The latest news I received on the release date for The Cup was July 29th.

Mason is actually out of /249....I'm thinking turris or doughty will be out of 99. Not sure if i like the rookie patches this year. Hard to top last years design and rookie crop....

Here are my picks for the /99 group of RC's in this year's THE CUP:

Stamkos, Schenn, Turris, Voracek & Brassard or Vilatov (not sure which of these two will make it)

I would expect Wheeler to be an /99 version as well.

My picks would be Stamkos, Schenn, Brunnstrom, Wheeler, Mason and Turris. Who knows how it will turn out, though. Ah....the anticipation.

It sounds Simeon Valamov is going under the radar of a lot of people. This guy is a pure diamond. If UD thinks about hype/demand, I think Varlamov is right in line after Stamkos and Mason. No?

You make a very valid point about Valamov. The only caveat is that he probably came on strong in the NHL a little too late for the folks at Upper Deck to choose him for a #'d to 99 candidate. On the other hand, I believe that Mason had great success pretty much throughout the entire 2nd half of the season, so it would be justified if he made the cut.

Good call on Brunnstrom....probably right, I just completely forgot about him. Also, I think it'll be Filatov because he has one of the highest amounts of potential among these rookies. In THN Draft Preview, they have a huge article on Filatov....I think he's going to be real good. Looks like all of those losing seasons paid off for the Blue Jackets. If that team stays together during the next few years, they will be real good.

How about Schenn? Not one of the top rookies but then again Tlusty wasn't last year and he was a /99

I think they see really great potential in Schenn and that's why he is listed on most of the /99's this year and will most likely be in that group when The Cup is released. I'm STILL scratching my head of Tlusty, though.

The Sell Sheets are only made to show the design, no guarantee the Mason is #/249 even if Mason is pictured as #/249 on the sell sheets. I hope the "NHL rookie of the year" will be #/99.

I think that is a little crazy if Pogge gets the 99 nod. However, I must admit that I've been reading tons of good stuff about him in THN. They are likening Pogge to Toronto's answer to Montreals Carey Price....so The Cup might be putting him at /99, thinking about the future.

I've seen some tins going for around $400 in ebay, so it looks to me like you got what is exactly the average price around for this product. These delays kill me, especially when my money is paid out ahead of time ! OK, I'll look for it and get a scan over to you as soon as I can.

According to the Upper Deck Facebook page, the release date is now August 6th.

The decision of which players are /99 was made in November.

The Mason card from the sell-sheet is an actual card. He is /249.

Sorry to go about bumping such an old thread, and sorry to ask the silly question of the day, but:

I just obtained a Gold parallel /25. The core of the card stock is gold. Is this how they all are? The only thing I have to compare it to are /199's and /47's and the core of the card stock is white... :confused0024::confused0024:
