View Full Version : Packer Fans ARE NOT going to be happy about this
pwaldo 06-29-2003, 09:15 PM http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/hiestand/2003-06-26-hiestand_x.htm
Lambeau Field is going to have a name change and some company's name is going to replace.
This just after the Bears "sold away their sole" to some bank.
I just pray that the Yankees don't sell the naming rights to their stadium.
wdwain 06-29-2003, 09:43 PM That stinks in my opinion and i am not a Green Bay fan. A stadium around that long with so much tradition should never change it's name.
BGray 06-29-2003, 09:51 PM That is soooooooo messed up. I can't think of anything I hate more. That happens to Fenway and I walk away from baseball all together.

That's how I feel about it.
I'm not a Packers fan and if I was I would probably be steaming mad right now.
When stadiums are around that long and are that special a corporation SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO ADD THEIR NAME TO IT.
bergzautos 06-29-2003, 10:27 PM Actually, the Bears didn't "sold away their sole" to some bank
That was blown way out of proportion. It's not going to be used in the name of the stadium. It is still going to be called just Soldier Field, nothing else.
Its just really hard to explain, but the Bears as a team were like bought by a bank, not really bought, just very hard to explain like i said. But no one bought out Soldier Field.
RedMania 06-30-2003, 01:39 AM that does stink
podstock 06-30-2003, 02:12 AM well....
I grew up watching the Lakers play in the Fabulous Forum.
Then it was the freaking Great Western Forum (for some damn bank)
Now, Lakers moved to new arena, and it's farking Staples Center.
Next thing you know, there'll be an arena dubbed Hemorrhoids Center.
RedRamage 06-30-2003, 09:28 AM Can't say I love the Tigers playing at "Comerica Park", but it should be worse. At least is wasn't Tiger Stadium getting renamed.
The Lions now play in Ford Field. I can live with this. The Ford Motor Company is not only a Detroit buisness icon, but the owner of the team is also the owner of the company so there is a connection. It ain't like some bank or internet company or something with no roots or ties to the area.

Yeah I know they didn't sell the name of Soldier Field.
But they did sell the Bears name to Bank One or some other bank.
So at the games they will be announced as The Chicago Bears presented by Bank One or something to that effect.
What they call the Bears is not important though its just that I DON'T LIKE COMPANIES DOING THIS TO TEAMS.
I watch sports to enjoy a game between 2 teams. I don't watch sports to see a computer company versus a bank company.
Molina00 06-30-2003, 11:29 AM Ford Field I can understand being Detroit but changing the names of stadium that are somewhat American icons is just wrong.
If the Rangers ever do that, I will be mad.
The Rangers ballpark doesn't really even have a name does it?
The Ballpark at Arlington isn't exactly a stadium name.
studin 06-30-2003, 02:15 PM How bout Tampax Park or the Preperation H Dome?
just-for-cards 06-30-2003, 02:35 PM Cheezie Field - Home of the Packers
Favre is sure to retire anyway, so Green Bay can start from scratch.
bergzautos 06-30-2003, 04:22 PM Pwaldo-
As long as the money Bank One has spent to "buy the Bears" is used to make the team better, provide a better atmosphere for the fans, and helps in the Soldier Field renovation, i am all for it. Its not like they are going to be wearing decals that say Bank One on it. Its such a minor thing, and if the money does go a long way to helping the Bears and the fans, i dont have a problem with it.
Same goes for all other teams.
redlegs2144 06-30-2003, 04:37 PM Just a quick question does anyone know who started all of this? (Meaning which team sold out first)

Yeah its not really that bad.
There not the Chicago Bank One Bears or something like that but its just a scary trend that I see in the sports world today.
First it was stadium names and signs being everywhere during the game and the next thing you know we will have teams named after companies and the teams logo will be replaced by the companies logo.
Its just something I don't want to see in the future and with all these moves it looks like NO TEAM is safe.
podstock 06-30-2003, 05:01 PM lolol...that'll be the day when a stadium is name Tampax Pad Park
lolol..imagine the players who have to play there 81 games a season
RedRamage 07-01-2003, 08:28 AM It's a trend I can't say I'm happy to see happening. I suppose if the money is used to improve the team and improve the fan experience...but I really wonder how much of that will actually end up benefiting the fans.
bergzautos 07-01-2003, 11:06 AM Right, no team is safe, and that really is scary. But that's life, people like Bank One need the advertising to stay in business. But it won't change the way teams play, etc. people will still call them the bears, no one will use Bank One in refering to them.
Tigers#1 07-01-2003, 02:08 PM My insider tells me that Preperation H has the early lead for the naming rights.:emb:
HoBaFoo66 07-01-2003, 11:06 PM Im not even a Pakcer fan and Im pretty pissed about this! I'll use the White Sox as an Example. Comiskey changed to Us Cellular Field. What if Lambeau was changed to that name? Instead of the Lambeau Leap, it would be the US Cellular Field Leap? LOL.
studin 07-01-2003, 11:20 PM In Toronto they might be changing the name of the Air Canada Center and the Skydome.
At least its not as bad as St Louis they had 3 different names for there arena in 3 years. The Saavis Center,Kiel Center and I forget the other one.
BlackDiam0nd66 07-02-2003, 09:34 PM lol...tampax park....you guys kill me!! :D
I can honestly tell you I pay no attention to the new names of the parks....don't get me wrong...it just ticks me off that ANYTHING can be bought for enough $$....I mean...I honestly can't tell you the "new" name of Candlestick park....I didn't know the Great Western Forum was anything else...lol.....I call them what I know them to be from days gone by!!
Peace,
Rima
Just waiting for the day when you can visit the Viagradome.....but who really wants to watch ball with a bunch of rigid folks???
studin 07-02-2003, 10:08 PM Bengay Gardens down in Florida for all those old people.
