Set looks really good again this year. Boxes should provide really good value especially with a good rookie crop.

While I certainly understand the cynicism, and I agree that there are too many products, I think Black Diamond is one of the few that really has a place in the hobby. The design always has good visual appeal, the base set is broken down, so that your top tier quad diamond players are more scarce than the lower-mid level players that make up the single diamond tier base card, and the rookies usually look really good. Add to that, the Gold, and Onyx/Black/Platinum or whatever they decide to call the 1/1 parallels are usually some of the most in demand cards of most rookies, and can add great value to a break. The jersey cards in the past have been a bit weak, but the 08-09 design was nothing less than sharp.

I'd love to see UD eliminate a few sets, but Black Diamond sure isn't one of them.

Well, the link to the checklist has been fixed, and ummm, I really don't know where they're going with some of this stuff.

Quads
181 Peter Stastny
182 Bobby Hull
183 Joe Sakic
184 Jarome Iginla
185 Don Cherry
186 Roberto Luongo
187 Jonathan Toews
188 Jari Kurri
189 Evgeni Malkin
190 Scotty Bowman
191 Martin Brodeur
192 Ray Bourque
193 Steve Yzerman
194 Sidney Crosby
195 Alex Ovechkin
196 Bobby Orr
197 Mark Messier
198 Patrick Roy
199 Mario Lemieux
200 Gordie Howe
201 Wayne Gretzky

So nice to see that they think so little of most of the current players as to make them commons. I like the retired vets, I respect everything they've done for the game, but this is a little much. There's doubles and triples of retired players all throughout the set, including Guy Carbonneau as a double. And of course the early list has all the players that switched teams over the summer with their last ones.

I'll seriously be taking a pass on the set project this set, it'll be singles for me. Luckily there's a few Habs autos!

That checklist is a disaster so far. Wow.

There are plenty of sets with current players. There have been a few sets such as 06-07 Parkhurst, Masterpieces and 1972 ITG. There are a few sets such as BD and Artifacts that feature a few hall of famers or retired players.

For myself, I collect hall of fame players so I love to see them in the new sets surrounded by current players-it gives a sense of history or continuity.

It is the best of both worlds for me, I can rip a new product and still find some of the guys I grew up watching. It seems everyone wants a Bobby Orr auto, but I actually saw him play back in 72. Seeing him in a set brings back memories.

I think UD recognizes there are quite a few people like myself who collect cards. It is in their interest to make the cards attractive to us as well as to the younger collectors looking for the newest rookies.

I would love to be able to rip lots of 70's and 80's wax, but seeing some of theselegends remembered in today's products is a good substitute.
