I've been looking for answers to this...This looks like a great forum, and I am looking forward to being a member here...

Anyways...I am looking to purchase a signed Michael Jordan basketball from an individual. He is a friend of a friend and is looking to make some money. I have only had conversations via email/phone with him. He tells me that the ball is in good condtion. I have seen pictures of the ball only. It looks to be in good shape. It says "NBA Record 1995 - 96 Season 72 - 10" as well as "Chicago Bulls...Limited Edition...0201 of 1000" on the ball. It has the Chicago Bulls emblem as well. It is signed by Michael Jordan in big, bold black marker. It comes with a certificate of authenticy from "Prince of Cards" guaranteeing authenticy of the signature.

The individual is asking $300, but he sounds a little sketchy. My friend says the same (they are not great friends...acquaintances would be more accurate). I am wondering if anyone can verify that this ball/signature is authentic. If yes, I am wondering if you could place an approximate worth on the ball and tell me whether $300 is a good buy.

I greatly appreciate any help you could give me!!

Thank you...

I can only warn you that the odds are better that it is not real, than it is. He has had an exclusive with UDA for a long while. You may be better spending the additional $300 and getting a UDA ball. Is it better to spend $600 and know you are getting a good auto, or spend $300 and wonder?

i would take a jordan ball like that in a second if i had the offer, but the UDA thing does scare me a lil but when exactly did he have that contract this coulda been before that

I am strongly questioning the validity of the ball, but from the pics it seems legit! I have looked all over the internet and can find nothing that matches the ball...You would think I could find something with the "0201 of 1000" somewhere...I have found nothing!! Again, if anyone knows anything, please help!! I'm in the dark here...

The certificate is everything. If its not UDA stay away. Its 300 for a reason.

I've never heard of the company that provided the COA and didn't come across anything on them by doing a Google search. I suppose it's entirely possible that he signed with someone else earlier on.

I know UD has a contract with Jordan and their prices are a bit on the high side.

Besides Jordan's contract to sign only for UDA he is also on the Board of Directors for UDA.

Jordan is exclusive with Upper Deck, but that ball is from the 95-96 season and may have been before his UDA contract. I own a few UDA items signed by Jordan, and the sig on that ball looks legit, but I am no expert. $300 is a great price, but I would only buy it if he will give your money back if it doesn't pass PSA/DNA authentication. If the seller will back it up, I say buy it, send it to PSA/DNA, and if it comes back legit, then you have a ball worth around $1,000 or more.

so throw out an extra 100 bucks to get it authenticated....

Does anyone know what year Jordan signed with UDA?

Is it even possible this is real? Comparing authenticated signatures to the one on this ball, this ball seems to look like the others...However, anyone can do that.

I also question the "1995-96 72 - 10 Season" etc that is stamped on the ball...I have looked all over online and can find nothing about a ball that matches this..."0201 of 1000"...

This would be a helluva fake with the fake stamp and fake signature...They've done a good job if it's not real!

I think there's a good possibility that it's real. The sig looks good, and I'm sure the basketball is real--it was probably sold at Bulls games or Chicago area retailers after the 95-96 season. The reason you can't find it online is that there probably isn't a huge market for a stamped basketball like that--plus it's like 13 years old.

Like I said, if the ball gets authenticated by PSA/DNA, then you are looking at something worth $1,000 or more--Jordan signed basketballs sell for $1,500 on Upper Deck's website.
