hey guys, i was cleaning my garage and found a bunch of my baseball movies on vhs! i upgraded these to dvd, then was wondering before i upgrade all my dvds, will dvds ever become extinct like vhs and cassettes and 8 track? i would hate to buy more dvds only to have to replace them all in a few years with the newest and latest. your thoughts on this please.

hahah yeah, looking back at that, that was a stupid question wasnt it? i think ive ben inhaling too much of this wildfire smoke, either that or its getting way to late. i think my better question is/was, what is the next new technology? blue ray?

I was wondering the same thing with all electronics. How long before PS3s/X360s and iPhones become a thing of the past?

I still remember N64, Pokemon FTW!!!!

I hope not really soon, i've gotten most systems as they come out. Don't think I can afford to get a PS4 or Xbox 720 or iPhone 300GSS:sign0020:

vhs tapes are superior to dvd's in my honest opinion, i'll tapes/cartridges over discs anyday. eventually all movies, games and music will be sold only as downloads.

Very true, there are a decline in CD sales while mp3 sales are going way up..why this is, it's very simple. artists only come out with 3 good songs (popular artists..) it seems. No one wants to pay 20 bucks for a cd that has 16 tracks and only 1-3 songs they like..which made them illegally torrent cd's..now you have the option to buy those songs for 3 bucks or less..seems like a good deal!

Not only that, you can rent movies to watch on your xbox or if you have comcast it's on demand..so yes..eventually there will not be much use for dvds or anything of that nature since it will all be in a database ;)!

Yes I had coleco vision. There was intellivision system too back in the day. Before that there was the blip and dot systems of paddle tennis and hockey! I still have Nintendo, Super NES,N64,PlayStation 1 systems. My favorite Atari game was Adventure. That's when I learned how to stay up all night playing to beat a game (1978?)

We have PS2, N64, and Wii set up in the house.

I'm not even sure Blu-Ray will have the success that DVD had as I think it will all be digital soon enough... with products like Apple TV and others out there. I'm sure in the not too distant future, every movie, show, music album will be online for us to just pick it and watch in on our tvs through a high speed type connection. I hope all the old sporting events will all be there for us to just watch at any time too.

It basically happens with games, movies, and music every ten years or so. Stores only carry the new stuff so you're basically forced to move on every few years.

I put off buying CD's or even video games on a disc for a long time out of fear of having them get scratched, but they've been pretty reliable so far.

I think DVDs will be around a few more years because blu ray is still pretty expensive and the current genereation games probably have another 2-3 years

pretty soon they'll just make it to where you put on your underwear and you hear music in your head

Right now Blu-ray is the wave. Because of the PS3 and Computer Enthusiasts. HD DVD is already obsolete. They disappeared as fast as they surfaced kind of like Laserdisc.

As of now, DVD is still as strong as it ever was. Blu-ray has made an impact, but I don't see it taking over DVD in the near future.
