On the 3rd weekend in September, they open the park to 400 vehicles a day. You can drive about 90 miles into the park and get within 50 miles (or so) of the largest mountain in North America. This year was clear as a bell, and we saw grizzlies, caribou, dall sheep, really BIG moose, bald eagles, etc...To get your name drawn, you have to send in a SASE - usually about 10-15K people enter. Where do you live? I've been up 4 times and have been to Denali twice. Road the bus back to Eilson the second time and to Wonder Lake the first. Saw the mountain both times, but it wasn't out the year we stopped at Eilson. We still saw it from the observation pull off south of the park when we were heading to Kenai (halibut fishing in homer). It's crazy how large it is the first time you see it. glad you had some great wildlife sightings too. I saw grizzlies both times we were at the park...among other animals.
