So here it is – I think it’s fair to say I will never have a Show & Tell this good again. To set the scene, I saw this item on sale on eBay around 3 or 4 months ago and thought how sweet it would be to own it, but I was out of work at the time and got the feeling it was never going to happen. To my surprise (although the seller was looking for a lot for it) it never sold. Well, it came up on the Bay again around 2 months ago. It had been on for a few days with no bids, so I contacted the seller and asked if he would sell it to me where I could pay monthly as I had just got a job. I am pleased to say he agreed.

So I am now the owner of this, Bob Proberts first fighting major game used jersey;

I believe this Probert jersey has real history – the jersey arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time wore in his first NHL fight, shown here;

For the record, he also recorded his first ever NHL point against Chicago on 12/15/1985 while wearing this jersey.

The jersey has fairly light to medium use (consistent with his limited ice time during his first season), light to medium stick marks, board paint and a bit of faded blood on the number 4 on the back and a bit of fight abuse around the neck of the jersey. In this jersey he played in 44 games. In the collar, the jersey has the "born on” tag # 85 07..The left sleeve has embroidered the Red Wings 60th Season Patch.

Unfortunately it is only video matched. I will investigate a method of getting a photo from the video, as I think it will look good alongside the jersey when I get it framed.

I remember seeing an article in Beckett (anyone remember Beckett?) a few years ago where people were asked to write in and say what piece of hockey memorabilia they would love to own. I remember “THAT” Toonie was mentioned, Foster Hewitts microphone and a few more. I am pleased to say that I now own my ultimate piece of hockey memorabilia.

Congrats on the amazing pickup!!! Glad to see you got the item you wanted the most. Very few collectors can say that. I want to see that when you get it framed.

Thanks,
Charlie

Hate to bump an old thread, but WOW. Great stuff!

Now all you need is Craig Coxe's jersey mounted next to it and a continuous loop of the fight playing in between, lol.
