Often overlooked, Ultra continues to withstand the test of time. The base cards offer a full-color photo that encompasses the entire card. The information on the card is well done as it has a design but does not overtake the card. There are two parallel versions of the base card, Gold Medallion and Ice Medallion. The Gold version is found in every pack and the Ice is numbered to 100.

There are numerous insert sets that proliferate this product. However, the one that is the shining star is the eX series. The card is designed on a transparent background with the player's photo shown on a raised piece of plexiglass. Though the card is a bit bulky and awkward, it's a standout set and will be a great chase series for a lot of collectors.

Ultra has never been a set to chase after the big hits. This is a release for the collectors. Between a decent sized base set and numerous inserts, Ultra gives the collector a lot of punch. This is a great product to start getting young collectors started as well as a fun release for older collectors. While the relics and autographs look commonplace and are not highly sought after, that's not the intent of Ultra. It's meant to be a feel-good release that everyone can enjoy.

I personally don't like Ultra this year - the rookie parallels look weird. It was an average box - unless, like others have been mentioning, the rookie redemption is a big one.
