Now that the bulk of the NFL season has come and gone, it is a little more clear-cut which rookies you might want to consider putting your money into right now.

1. Adrian Peterson

Despite concerns about injury always looming over his head, Peterson has proven to the NFL that he has what it takes to make it in the pros. Leading the league in rushing with 1,081 yards (as of week 11), Peterson is well on his way to a unanimous Offensive Rookie of the Year selection if his current injury isn’t too serious. He should be a factor for the young Vikings team for many years to come.

Collectors took serious note of Peterson following his record-breaker performance in week 9 when he rushed for 296 yards against San Diego. Message boards were filled with collectors trying to buy or trade for Peterson cards and eBay was flooded with 5,000+ listings. He has since fallen back to his regular 3,000 listings.

Key regular issue/parallel cards:

  • -Topps Chrome Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Finest Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Artifacts Base
  • -Donruss Classics Base

Other key cards:

  • -Any game-used, auto, or patch cards
  • -Any low-numbered inserts/parallels
  • -Dual Lynch/Peterson game-used and autos

2. JaMarcus Russell

You are probably wondering how a guy who hasn’t taken a single snap in the NFL can be number two on a list of top 2007 rookies. Frankly, I don’t blame you for thinking that. But, I can defend my stance. Russell was the #1 pick in the draft for a reason. He has a strong arm, good accuracy, and a team that has nowhere to go but up. His size also will allow him to see over defenders and break out of sacks with ease.

Russell will have/has collectability all over as the Raiders have fans across the entire country, so you can’t go wrong investing in this guy. Russell steadily has around 1,000 listings on eBay, but that number will go up (as will the prices) when Russell finally gets his chance to play.

 Key regular issue/parallel cards:

  • -Topps Chrome Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Finest Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Artifacts Base
  • -Donruss Classics Base

Other key cards:

  • -Any game-used, auto, or patch cards
  • -Any low-numbered inserts/parallels
  • -Dual Quinn/Russell game-used and autos

3. Marshawn Lynch

Lynch has surprised many and has become the second best offensive rookie this season. As of week 11, Lynch is fifth in the league in rushing yards, but also has injury worry. But what many didn’t realize was that Lynch ran for 153 yards the same week that Peterson broke Jamal Lewis’ record. And as the Bills young core of players mature, Lynch’s stock (and card prices) will rise.

Lynch isn’t widely known around the collecting world yet. The key word there is yet. He is slowly creeping towards a 1,000 yard season, but that is lost in all the Peterson hype. This means, it your chance to invest heavily into Lynch before it’s too late. With his key RCs trading for a mere fraction of Peterson’s cards, this is the prime time to buy Lynch. With around 800 regular eBay listings, the majority of non-auto or patch Lynch cards are trading for under $10 and many are going unsold.

Key regular issue/parallel cards:

  • -Topps Chrome Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Finest Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Artifacts Base
  • -Donruss Classics Base

Other key cards:

  • -Any game-used, auto, or patch cards
  • -Any low-numbered inserts/parallels
  • -Dual Peterson/Lynch game-used and autos

4. Dwayne Bowe

I am putting Dwayne Bowe ahead of Calvin Johnson. Yes, I’m doing it. “The reason?” you may be asking yourself. Well, there is a simple answer: their names are Roy Williams, Mike Furry, and Shaun McDonald. Johnson is the second receiver on a team that relies heavily on the pass, but also spreads the ball around very well. Bowe, on the other hand, lines up with Eddie Kennison (a player far past his prime). And if Brodie Croyle becomes the star quarterback he’s expected to, watch out for Bowe’s receiving numbers before they get too high to see.

Bowe has shown a lot of promise this season and will only get better with time as most all receivers do, so you need to buy now while demand is low. He is on a losing team that doesn’t generate too many fans outside of the KC area. With around 600 regular eBay listings, Bowe’s cards are readily available for the taking, considering many of the listings end without bids. Even most game-used cards are selling for less than $10 and autos for less than $20. Buy now while things are cheap.

Key regular issue/parallel cards:

  • -Topps Chrome Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Finest Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Artifacts Base
  • -Donruss Classics Base

Other key cards:

  • -Any game-used, auto, or patch cards
  • -Any low-numbered inserts/parallels
  • -Dual Johnson/Bowe game-used and autos

5. John Beck/Ted Ginn Jr.

This combo is certain to be around for quite awhile. Ginn has already made his mark in the return game this season and now plays a bigger role in the offense because of the Chris Chambers trade. Beck is getting his first shot at starting in week 11. It’s difficult to say how Beck will fair this season as the Dolphins season is already a lost hope and main running threat Ronnie Brown on IR. But with a few more pieces, the Dolphins could be led by these two into the playoffs after a few years.

Activity on John Beck cards has increased in the last week after the announcement that he would be starting. He matches Bowe’s eBay listings, but it will be interesting to see if that number increases if he has a good performance on Sunday.

Ginn Jr. has been a constant seller with 500 regular eBay listings. His cards are of a good trading level with game used and autographs selling at good investment price. Get them now as they could rise to a Devin Hesterish level in the next few years.

Key regular issue/parallel cards:

  • -Topps Chrome Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Finest Base, Refractor, and X-Fractor
  • -Artifacts Base
  • -Donruss Classics Base

Other key cards:

  • -Any game-used, auto, or patch cards
  • -Any low-numbered inserts/parallels
  • -Dual Ginn/Beck game-used and autos

While these guys are the cream of the investment crop, here are some other players to watch out for in the next few years:

  • -Calvin Johnson
  • -Brady Quinn
  • -Robert Meachem
  • -Patrick Willis
  • -LaRon Landry
  • -Chris Henry (RB)
  • -Sidney Rice
  • -Tony Hunt
  • -Kevin Kolb
  • -Drew Stanton
  • -Gaines Adams
  • -Lorenzo Booker
  • -Anthony Gonzalez

Please note that as I am an avid football fan and card collector, I can not assure that any of the above information will actually happen.
