Upper Deck Rewards Sweepstakes Winners with Private Baseball Clinic Hosted by Derek Jeter!

New York Yankees Team Captain Ready to Put Youngsters Through the Paces of Baseball Fundamentals at Legends Field in Tampa

In yet another way to get trading card collectors closer to the action on the field of play, the Upper Deck Company conducted its annual “MLB Scoreboard Challenge” sweepstakes in 2007 and is happy to announce that seven lucky youngsters have won the right to learn baseball fundamentals from one of the game’s best: New York Yankees Team Captain Derek Jeter!

Ten-year-old Madeleine Baxter from Little Rock, Arkansas, and 12-year-old Kevin Wright from Ellicott City, Maryland, are two of the lucky winners who secured all-expense-paid trips to hone their baseball skills alongside the Yankee shortstop on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Legends Field in Tampa. They will spend nearly two hours with the four-time World Series champion learning everything from stretching exercises and batting stance options, to throwing techniques and fielding basics.

To enter the contest, collectors simply needed to register alphanumeric codes found on the back of various Upper Deck baseball cards from the company’s lineup of 2007 MLB products at www.upperdeckkids.com. For every card they registered, the entrants received an entry into the sweepstakes. The more codes entered, the better their odds of winning. The sweepstakes ran from April 1 through October 10, 2007.

In addition to the MLB Scoreboard Challenge winners, Upper Deck invited four deserving members of the local branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to participate in this year’s clinic. Shervin Rassa, branch director at the Jim Walter Interbay Boys & Girls Club in Tampa, is happy to announce that Jared Miller, age 11; Corey Woodard Jr., 9; Justin Kercher, 9; and Kayla Cunningham, 11, were all granted the golden opportunity.

“These are deserving kids who all play Little League and who have shown some serious interest in baseball,” said Rassa. “Needless to say, they are really looking forward to meeting Derek Jeter.”

The seventh lucky participant is 13-year-old Joey Simeo from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, He earned the chance to play alongside Jeter by winning a special drawing contest conducted by Sports Illustrated for Kids. His color rendition of Jeter was deemed the best of the entries and now he’s on his way to Legends Field.

In addition to participating in the clinic at Legends Field, all of the kids will have lunch with Jeter in the Yankees Clubhouse and then receive autographed portraits from the Yankees captain himself.
