16 Days of Baseball – Part 1: Cooperstown

By Sean McCafferty aka 30ranfordfan

To anyone who’s never stepped foot on the hallowed grounds of Cooperstown, the size, setting, and location for the shrine to Baseball’s immortals may seem odd. A little village nestled by a lake in Otsego County, there are less than 2,000 residents. In contrast, the Hockey Hall of Fame is wedged into downtown Toronto, Canada’s most populous city.

Taking a walk down Main Street, especially first thing in the morning – before the rest of the tourists arrive, I suppose it’s like walking down the main street of any other similar sized community in America, or Canada. More >

Someone needs to call Winnipeg and remind them that they’re back in the big leagues. Only a month into the life of True North Sports Entertainment’s reborn Jets franchise, owners Mark Chipman and David Thomson are already making me wonder if they’ll ever have a team better than the one they just plucked from Atlanta.

I would certainly never question the business savvy of a man like Thomson. One of the richest men in the world, the man certainly knows how More >

Best Hockey Card Manufacturer? For my money in 2011, it’s ITG

By Sean McCafferty aka 30Ranfordfan

I need to give big props to all three of the manufacturers. Trying to pick my favourite from 2011 was tough. Upper Deck has a dual release every year that I very much look forward to. Upper Deck Series 1 & 2. For me it’s become my standard set to build each season. With 50 Young Guns Rookie Cards in each series, it’s More >

Can the Market Sustain these Prices, or Is a Hobby Crash Inevitable?

By Sean McCafferty aka 30ranfordfan

Like many other hobbyists out there, I really enjoy busting wax. I know full well going into it that I’m not likely to pick up a lot of cards that I need, but I’m always hoping that I’ll get something nice. Keep the ones I want, and trade or sell the ones I don’t. Really simple formula.

I do really wonder though, does the thrill of the big pull make up for all those bad breaks? Personally, I try to limit the products I open to sets I’m collecting, or sets that have some potential for cards More >
