My Dream Set…
Nov 20th
By Karine Hains aka Pheebs888
In life it’s impossible to please everyone and the same applies to the hobby. Whatever it is that the card manufacturers do, there will always be people who will be happy and people who will criticize not one product or idea will please everyone. This is an undeniable fact and no one will ever be able to change that but if the card companies wanted to please me, or if I worked for say Upper Deck, here’s what I would do…
Currently the market is saturated with numerous releases which are more or less rather similar. SPX, More >
Bring Back the Old School
Nov 19th
By Will McCullough aka Bulldogboy07
Do you remember the good old school stuff we all enjoyed? I would love to see manufacturers bring back the collectable sets. There are so many sets today that are almost impossible to collect. The cards for most sets are at least $2 a card. Now you multiply that by for example 200. That’s $400 to make ONE set!! I can’t believe it. I remember when I was young and I could make a set barely using $10. Isn’t that wild?!? I had a set of 1992 Topps baseball and I still look at each card every More >
The Days of Innocence!
Nov 14th

I often think back to my youth, and the joy I experienced collecting baseball cards. I got serious when I was almost 12 years old, collecting the 1987 Topps Baseball Set. I loved the wooden border design, and the price of 40 cents per wax pack was very affordable. Those days, sadly, are gone, replaced by packs that range anywhere from $1 for Score brand items, to $500 for Upper Deck’s Exquisite Collection. The hobby has completely changed, and as a result, my collecting habits have as well. I am now a 1 player collector, because More >
A Very Hobby Christmas
Nov 14th
By Karine Hains aka Pheebs888
December 23rd 1991, it’s cold in Quebec City, very cold… That doesn’t stop my cousins and me from heading to the local ice rink for our (almost) daily fix of hockey. There big kids, small kids, parents are absorbed in a 25 a-side match which will likely last all day. You lace up your skates and join one of the teams, whichever one takes your fancy and you play until you looks suspiciously like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Once the likeness is achieved, you wave a white flag and retreat to the rink’s locker room where More >
What is a Super Collector?
Nov 13th
By David Tenneson aka Klausw205
As a broke newly-wed living in the precarious time between getting my college degree and having to start paying off school loans, I’m pretty sure I picked the worst possible time to fall empty pockets-over-heels in love with the hobby. No money and lost amidst the drowning tide of parallels, inserts, autos, and a myriad of fake eBay patches, it’s not surprising that my first few months in the hobby were spent on the bench watching others. I became the not-so-metaphorical kid taken to his first major league baseball game and, like the 5 year-old me, More >
Bring Back Big Sets
Nov 13th
By *censored* aka Drew Pelto
Not all of us want more cards overall, just more cards per set…
I’ll admit it, I’m an old-school collector. I’d rather spend my money on a bunch of base cards of nobodies than cards serial numbered with pieces of jersey in them.
My first packs of cards came in 1990, with the first one I truly remember being a rack pack of 1991 Donruss baseball that I got in April of 1991. You remember those ones with the borders that look like the producers of Tron met with Jackson Pollock and threw something on blue and green More >
