How to Collect on a Budget
May 13th
By Ryan Kalmoe aka SWOWannabe
If you’re at all like me and the vast majority of collectors, the only zeros in your checking account balance is what it shows after you’ve paid your bills for the month. It can be a very difficult to manage your finances, especially with a family. Every expert will agree, however, that the age-old adage “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” holds true in every regard – if at all possible we should have some sort of entertainment budget each month. The problem is that because it’s more fun to buy More >
The Lost Art of Communication
Apr 4th
By Sean Ruml aka Srman77
In this day and age where we have all forms of ways to communicate with one another, it seems that we have lost the art of communication. There is no better example of this then in buying / selling, or trading sports cards. I myself admit that I’ve caught myself in doing what I have gotten irritated by others for doing. Whether it was ignoring a message, or just never getting back to someone. That being said it’s time for a change so that we don’t lose the art of communication. I see it happen quite More >
Dark Sky, Dark Water, A Dark Night
Mar 31st
By Drew Pelto aka *censored*
Twenty years ago, my view of baseball– and life as a whole– changed forever.
On the morning of March 23, 1993, I woke up, had an Eggo waffle with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on it, and prepared to enter another day of the hell known as third grade. Sitting on the couch in my living room in the far-east Cleveland suburb of Painesville, Dan Patrick delivered the morning’s sports news. Baseball season was only a few weeks away as I started my first Little League practices. My Cleveland Indians were still in the middle of a lengthy More >
A Monotonous Tone to an Exciting Season: A Look at my Eastern Conference Predictions
Jan 28th
By Cole Feinbloom aka cfagent0
This year’s shortened NHL season is going to prove to be a monotonous challenge, so to speak. Fans, although ecstatic that hockey is back, are more than likely not too excited about the schedule. Not facing off against out-of-conference opponents, playing against teams twice in a row, and what seems like an ultra-repetitive schedule in general might make fans shy away from the sport a bit. But for those dedicated fans who stuck with the league through the lockout, and look to stay dedicated to their team throughout the season, this article is for you. I More >
My History of Parallel Sets
Jan 24th
By Allan Alexander aka HockeyCardsPlus
This is my tale of the history in my eyes of the revolution of the parallel set. I have been a collector since I was around nine years old. I was really never interested in collecting a certain player or team, I enjoyed them all. Then along came 1994 and Pinnacle released its parallel set, Museum Collection, into that year’s baseball cards. I was hooked. I guess it was the starburst effect that really caught my eye with these. I tried to put the set together as well as the Artist Proofs set, but there were More >
Growth as a Collector
Nov 1st
By Patrick Kessler aka Kess
I cannot remember a time as a child when I didn’t have sports on my mind. It started with baseball and summers full of afternoon backyard games with friends and nights camped out in front of the TV watching Yankees and Phillies games. I still remember laying on the floor in front of the TV in a muggy house without air conditioning eating Freezepops and waiting for Mike Schmidt’s next at bat. I didn’t get into card collecting until one day when those afternoon backyard games turned into a card show off and swap event. I More >
