Michael Barton Looks at C.M. Punk

“Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because it’s the best thing going today!”
- Ric Flair
One of my favorite quotes of all time, and it fits the topic I would like to discuss today. That topic is C.M. Punk – for one – who did more in five minutes with a microphone than John Cena has his whole career. But the credit has to really go to another man, that being Vince McMahon.
There was a lot of confusion a few weeks back when C.M. Punk – at the end of yet another very More >

“Matt! Can you come downstairs please?” I had just returned home from work and was looking forward to a little relaxation, not a confrontation with my wife. It wasn’t what she said but the tone in which she said it. All you married guys know exactly what I am talking about! I shuffled downstairs trying to run through my head what I had done wrong this time. As I walked into the den, there she was, holding an empty hobby box of some 2010 Allen and Ginter I had just bought. The conversation continued on with More >
60 Years of Topps Baseball Countdown – #40: 1977 Topps

By Drew Pelto, AKA *censored*
Seeing as I’ve been a massive slacker the last few weeks, I might see if I can post a bunch of these all in a row to get caught up a bit. I was hoping to be in the lower 30′s by now instead of only to 40. Oh well.
Now that we’re out of the bottom 20, the countdown is getting into sets I actually kind of like. Key words: kind of. They’re not my favorites by any stretch, but they aren’t going to make me projectile vomit when I see them either.

My Wife and my Hobby

So when I first met my wife, I had a bedroom specifically devoted to baseball cards. Stacks littered the floor as I sorted and organized, really diving into not just collecting, but trading at that point. When she first came over, I was nervous that she would see this… let’s call it youthful past time and be a little discouraged by the whole thing.
Well, instead of her rolling her eyes over the hobby, she became more and more supportive of my interactions. Right away, she started buying me loose packs and blaster boxes when she went More >
Average Joes

I can remember when I was younger, going to the local sports card show at the Howard Johnson motel in Middle town, New York. I can remember the hours I spent looking through binders and boxes of cards, trying to find the players that I wanted the most (Don Mattingly and Mark Messier were the icons of my generation in New York). I can also remember always wanting to buy packs of cards, and always asking my father for a loan. I distinctly remember buying some packs of 90-91 Pro Set Hockey (the blue wrappers!).

The Baseball Road Trip

I’m not going to write another cliché filled article about why Toronto’s Rogers Centre is a bad place to watch baseball. If you go to Google, and spend about 30 seconds searching, you’ll be able to find lots of them.
Rogers Centre
Truth is the Rogers Centre (formally known as Skydome) is a great place to watch a game. The seats are as comfortable as you’ll find throughout Major League Baseball, and there isn’t a seat with a bad sightline in the house. It might get a little stuffy in there when the roof is closed, and it More >
