NFL Safe or Sorry?
Apr 13th
By Brett Johnson aka Chargerfan46
The greatest game ever invented, played by finely tuned athletes who know the risks inherent to the game. A sport I grew up loving and dreaming of playing as soon as I was old enough. A sport with tough guys like Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Curtis, Chuck Bednarik, etc. A sport that requires the player to put their health and well being on the line with each and every snap. A sport that captivates an audience that is looking for the big play or that big, bone jarring hit. A sport that glamorizes More >
Fixing the Saints
May 19th
By Guy Mitchell aka sweetg1
Much has been written about the New Orleans Saints and BountyGate. While nobody asked my opinion, I’m going to offer it. I’m here to help, free of charge!
I’m listing a checklist of items that will put the New Orleans Saints organization back together. Once they hire me to implement the changes, I’ll be sure to report back to you on the progress made.
1.) They must admit their wrongdoing.
We, as a society, are forgiving people, especially in sports. When Andy Pettitte freely stated that he participated in taking steroids and said he was sorry, people forgave him. More >
The Social Media World and Athletes
Apr 3rd
By Joshua Helms aka Helms83
Today’s technological advances in the social media world connect sport fans with their favorite athletes. Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook allow fans to follow their favorite athletes, view their messages, pictures, updates and even post messages to the athletes in the hope of a response. The invisible line between sports fans and these athletes has forever been erased.
Some of the top social media accounts from athletes include: Chad OchoCinco, Dwight Howard, Lance Armstrong, LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo (http://www.tweeting-athletes.com/TopAthletes.cfm). Recently, an unlikely story of Antonio Brown befriending a Steelers’ fan emerged which developed into More >
The NFL Has a Problem with the Bounties
Mar 8th
By Guy Mitchell aka sweetg1
The NFL has a problem with the bounty situation, and everyone knows it. I’ll start this by saying that I agree with most that the NFL has become a league where you can’t hit anybody. It’s not the same football that I grew to love, where you can’t touch the quarterback and you dare not hit a “defenseless” receiver. I’ve seen many safeties pulling up or act tentative, not to deliver the blow that they were taught to deliver for what looked like fear of being fined. For some of the rule changes, I think they More >
Evaluation of the Total Quarterback Rating (Total QBR)
Nov 20th
By Guy Mitchell aka sweetg1
Total QBR was created by ESPN to evaluate a Quarterback’s total contribution to the game. This would concern not only his passing numbers (as does the traditional Quarterback Rating), but it would also include his sacks, fumbles, his running ability, and penalties incurred.
I think it’s safe to say that the traditional Quarterback Passer Rating is outdated. I’d venture to say that 99.9% of today’s fans and experts could not recite the formula for today’s passer rating. I mean, who designs a system where 158.3 is the maximum rating? I think you take Pi – 3.1415926525 – More >
NFL: The Year so Far
Nov 12th
By Scott Rohlffs aka souperman79
As I write this article, my World Champion Green Bay Packers stand alone with an 8-0 start. I understand that I have some bias in writing this article because I feel the Pack will repeat this year and win yet another Super Bowl. The biggest problem facing the Packers this year is their defence; especially the defensive line in my opinion. With the loss of Cullen Jenkins to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency and the often injured Mike Neal out at the time; opponents are able to focus on Clay Matthews and shut him down More >
