It’s easy to hate Sean Avery. Unsavory comments about fellow players dating his ex-girlfriends. Flopping and diving all over the ice. Starting fights without backing them up. And of course, who can forget the eponymous “Sean Avery Rule” from 2008 about screening goaltenders after he turned to face Martin Brodeur and held his glove right in front of the legendary goalie’s mask to block his vision in a playoff game. The guy is a lightning rod for controversy both on and off the ice.
But for once, Avery is in the news this week for something positive. More >

As the NHL’s regular season comes to an end, setting the stage for another exciting Stanley Cup Playoffs, fans are focused primarily on the activities on the ice and on the out-of-town scoreboards. With parity never having been more prominent than it is this season, the standings in both the Western and Eastern Conferences remain very fluid. Only half of the 16 playoffs spots have been clinched at the time of this writing, and teams that were written off at Christmas time such as the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs remain mathematically alive in the More >

It was just a little over a year ago that Sidney Crosby scored the goal of a generation, lifting Team Canada to a dramatic victory at the Vancouver Olympics. Today, the NHL’s best player and major marketing vehicle is out indefinitely due to the effects of post-concussion syndrome. On January 5th he was hit from behind by Victor Hedman and his head struck the glass – no penalty was assessed More >

Recently, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price made some headlines for striking a pose after turning aside five consecutive Pittsburgh Penguins shooters in a Canadiens 2-1 shootout victory.
In his post-game interview, Price referred to his friend “Tuffy Cool” and said that it was something that had been in the works for a while. What only very few people know is the true identity of “Tuffy Cool” – while the media went overboard in its dissection of Price’s intentions or motives with the simple pose, it was really little more than an inside joke between More >

There are a handful of names that are synonymous with the sports card industry. One of those names belongs to Panini’s Tracy Hackler. Tracy is the Marketing Manager for Panini America. With an extensive background in writing and sports cards, he is a wealth of knowledge. While at the 2011 NHL Fan Fair in Raleigh, NC, I had the opportunity to meet the man behind the myth.
Q: Where are you from? A: Arlington, Texas. Actually, I have lived in the area all my life.
Q: Growing up, what were your favorite sport and player? A: Football. As More >
