When Upper Deck released 2009-10 The Cup on October 1st, it not only brought closure to the 09-10 collecting season but also marked the end of an era. For the previous five years, Upper Deck held an exclusive license to manufacture and distribute NHL hockey cards. During this period, collectors were introduced to wildly successful products such as The Cup and the one-off Montreal Canadiens Centennial, bringing in a new wave of collectors, myself included after a 13-year hobby vacation. Every one of the rookie cards of superstars such as Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Jonathan Toews, More >
Topps and CMG Worldwide Inc. have filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in Indianapolis against Upper Deck, citing the California-based company wrongfully used images and names of select players whose rights are licensed by Topps.
The suit, filed Monday, surrounds Upper Deck’s 2008 MLB SP Legendary Cuts Baseball brand that features Hall of Fame players under the umbrella of celebrity-licensing agency CMG Worldwide Inc. Topps announced in April an exclusive card licensing deal with CMG that provided the company with exclusive rights to 16 baseball legends, including Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig and Jackie Robinson. The lawsuit targets Upper Deck’s use of Gehrig, More >
Is it really any coincidence that Upper Deck has chosen to use the Boston Red Sox celebrating the World Series as the featured painting for the corrected version of the Hillary Clinton Presidential Predictor card? I think not.
Upper Deck claims that the card was a result of their prediction as to who was going to win the Democratic nomination.
“The Presidential Predictor cards are both topical and objective,” said Stockholm. “With the momentum of the race changing almost every day, we wanted to wait as long as we could to represent the more likely scenario.”

SPx baseball is one of the first “higher end” products released each year from the baseball crop.
Listed on Upper Deck’s website for release tomorrow, SPx again will again satisfy collectors of the product.
With a new base design prominently featuring a player photo in the center of the card, the always unique SPx base design delivers again.
The always popular Winning Materials and all of its parallels return in 2008. With three tiers of cards and a Trios version that all have parallels, building a master set of even one player will be a difficult task to master.

Despite not having any games started or played in 2007, Pac Man Jones did still have some trading cards produced. He’ll be picking up an entire new legion of collectors after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys this week.
Jones, swapped for at least fourth round draft pick, may not even play for the Cowboys in 2008. He is still suspended after having almost ten run-ins with the law since being drafted in 2005.
If commissioner Roger Goodell decides to re-instate Jones, he will make an immediate impact on an already dominant Cowboys team and will compliment Roy Williams nicely on defense.
