In the first period, T. Ruutu (CAR) had his 17th goal to put the Hurricanes up 1-0 at 13:54. Then almost immediately, S. Samsonov (CAR) had his 13th goal of the season making it 2-0 Carolina at 15:35.

In the second, there was only one goal at the very end of the period at 19:26 by I. Kovalchuk (ATL) giving him his 33rd on the season, cutting it to 2-1 Hurricanes.

The third period was very exciting! It started off with a Carolina goal by A. Babchuk (CAR), at 1:41 on the power play to make it 3-1 Hurricanes. Then, at 10:52, R. Peverley (ATL), scored his 9th of the year making it 3-2. Then at 13:57, T. White (ATL) scored his 17th of the season to tie the game at 3-3. However, the Thrashers just began their attack! At 18:32, R. Peverley (ATL) scored his 2nd of the game and 10th on the year on the Atlanta power play to make it 4-3 Thrashers, giving them their first lead of the game. However, at 19:57, with the Carolina empty net for the extra skater, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 2nd of the game giving him his 34th of the season to end it at 5-3 Thrashers. Along with I. Kovalchuk's (ATL) 2 goals in the game, he had 3 assists, giving him 37 on the season.

Next game is Tuesday, March 3rd, at home against the Florida Panthers.

Collector Summary:
Zach Bogosian: +1, 16:07 on ice, 2 shots, 1 hit given, 1 take away

Well, I had a very busy week last week, so i missed a few entries. But, they didnt play very well, so there isnt a need to type them up anyways.

However, they have ended their recent skid. Last night the Thrashers hosted the Colorado Avalanche.

First Period:
Actually started off very well for the Thrashers, something that has plagued them all season. At 2:57, T. Enstrom (ATL) got his 2nd goal of the season short-handed on the Avs power play, making it 1-0 Atlanta. Then, at 4:07, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 31st goal on the season to make it 2-0 Thrashers early in the game. All of a sudden, M. Reasoner (ATL) scored his 10th goal on the year at 11:20 to make it a commanding 3-0 lead for the home team. However, just before the period expired at 18:32, M. Hejduk (COL) scored his 22nd on the year on the Colorado power play.

Second Period:
Not much happened till half way through the second. Again, M. Hejduk (COL) scored his 23rd goal on the year at 11:01 to make it 3-2 Thrashers. Then at 15:16 R. Peverley (ATL) scored his 7th on the season to make it 4-2 Atlanta.

Third Period:
Not much happened her, but it was very intense heading into the last few minutes of the game. Colorado decided to pull the goalie with a few minutes left in the game. Well, it paid off as C. Stewart (COL) scored his 9th on the year, as the sixth man, to cut it to 4-3 with only a little time left at 18:29 in the period. Once again, the Avs goalie heads off the ice for the extra skater, but the Thrashgers stopped the threat by winning the faceoff and keeping it out of their defensive zone.

Collector Summary:
Zach Bogosian: +1, 17:17 on ice, 1 shot, 3 hits given, 3 takeaways, 3 blocked shots

The first period started off with a quick goal at 1:24 by G. Roberts (TAM), his 4th on the year giving the Lightning the early lead. And as most ATL fans know, if a game starts off this way, its usually not good! But then, at 9:52, C. Stuart (ATL) scored his 1st goal on the year, short-handed to give the Thrashers the 1-1 tie.

In the second period, the scoring got underway early as well. At 2:02, V. Kozlov (ATL) scored his 18th on the season at even strength to make it 2-1 Thrashers. That was all of the scoring in the second period.

In the final frame, S. Stamkos (TAM) had a penalty shot, which was blocked by goalie K. Lehtonen (ATL). Then, at 19:50, with the empty net for Tampa Bay, I. Kovalchul (ATL) picked up his 23rd goal on the season making it 3-1, and sealing the win for the Thrashers.

Next, the Chicago Blackhawks visit Philips Arena at 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 11.

WOW! I cannot tell you how exciting of a game it was! It ended up going a little longer than it should have, but I am glad it ended in a good way!

Actually, there was no scoring at all in the first or second periods.

Picking up in the third, at 6:26, recently called up J. Motzko (ATL) scored his 1st goal of the season to give the Thrashers the 1-0 lead. The Thrashers kept fighting, working to get goalie K. Lehtonen (ATL) the shutout. The Rangers pulled H. Lundvquist (NYR) for the extra skater. And then, with just 10 seconds left, at 19:49, M. Naslund (NYR) put back the rebound for his 16th on the season to tie it at 1-1 and to send it into overtime.

In overtime, there was no scoring, sending it into a shootout.

In the shootout, both the Rangers and Thrashers first skaters scored. However, the Rangers second skater shot was blocked...sending S. Kozlov (ATL) to center ice for the Thrashers second shot. He drove in...drifted towards the goal...and wrists one through the five hole! Then, the Rangers send their third skater out, who has to score, and K. Lehtonen (ATL) blocks his shot, earning the BIG win, which he deserved 100%.

The Thrashers improve to 18-29-5 on the season, with their next game against the New Jersey Devils, Friday February 6th in Atlanta at 7:30 P.M.
The first period began with a quick goal at 0:55 by T. Hunter (NY), his 12th on the season to quickly make it 1-0 Islanders. Then, K. Okposo (NY) scored his 8th goal on the year at 7:29 to make it 2-0 New York. The Thrashers just couldnt do anything right, or hardly get a shot on the goal. The third goal of the game came at 10:25 by T. Jackman (NY), giving him his 3rd on the year and making it 3-0 Islanders. Rouding out the scoring in the first was a goal by D.
There was no scoring in the second, just good ole' stale hockey.

The third period was VERY exciting for the Thrashers. The first Thrashers goal came by Z. Bogosian (ATL), his 3rd on the season at 0:26 in the period, cutting it to 4-1 New York. Then at 6:20, R.
First period, at 9:54, S. Hartnell (PHI) scored his 17th goal on the year to give the Flyers the early 1-0 lead. Then, the wheels fell off for the Thrashers. At 17:55, D. Powe (PHI) scored his 2nd goal of the season.

Second period, at 1:44, R. Jones (PHI) scored his 1st goal of the season to make the lead 3-0 Flyers. That was all the scoring in the middle frame.

To begin the last, the Thrashers down 3-0, something happened. Finally, the Thrashers came up with a goal at 4:42 by E. Perrin (ATL) to give him 5 on the season, making it 3-1. Then, Captain I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 20th on the year at 9:48 to make it 3-2. Suddenly, C. Thorburn (ATL) scored his 6th on the season at 10:49 to tie it up at 3-3! However, it wouldnt end so great.....At 12:12, M. Knuble (PHI) scored his 17th of the season to make it 4-3 Flyers. With the Thrashers hoping to tie it, they pull goalie K.
The first period got off to another great start, something the Thrashers have been doing well lately. At 5:02, E. Christensen (ATL) scored his 4th goal on the season, on the assist from rookie Z. Bogosian (ATL), giving his his 2nd in as many games. Soon after, at 6:26, C. Thorburn (ATL) scored his 5th goal on the year, with the assist from J. Slater (ATL), his 9th on the season, making the lead 2-0 Thrashers. The remainder of the period held no scoring action.

The middle frame was a bit of a slip by the Thrashers, as the Habs would slowly crawl back into the game. At 3:28 however, R. Peverley (ATL), the newly acquired Thrasher (who has been HOT), scored his 4th goal on the season opening the gap to 3-0 Thrashers. However, at 4:54, on the Montreal power play, M. Pacioretty (MON) scored his 3rd goal of the season closing the gap to 3-1. Then, almost immediately, S. Begin (MON) scored his 6th on the year to make it a one goal game at 3-2 Atlanta.

The third frame was very interesting. The Canadiens were fighting to tie the game and send it to overtime, but the Thrashers needed that extra tack on goal to make it tougher. At 8:55, Z. Bogosian (ATL) scored his 2nd goal on the year (also in as many games), to make the score 4-2 Thrashers. The score would also end that way, giving the Thrashers their third straight win.

The Thrashers improved to 17-25-5 on the year. Their next game is tomorrow, Jan. 21st as they travel to Philly to battle the Flyers at 7 P.M.

Collector Summary:
Zach Bogosian: 1G, 1A, 2P, +1, 19:13 on ice, 3 shots on goal, 2 hits given, 3 blocked shots
Jim Slater: 1A, 1P, +1, 2:05 on ice

Wow, this was one of the most impressive games the Thrashers played all year! Putting two games back to back from Saturdays performance, the Thrashers are looking better. Hopefully they can continue to improve.

To start off the game, in the first period, at 2:07 E. Perrin (ATL) scored his 4th goal on the season on the breakaway to give the Thrashers the early lead at 1-0. Then at 6:48, C. Armstrong (ATL) scored his 13th goal of the season at even strength from Z. Bogosian (ATL), giving his his first assist on the year and first NHL point. This quickly made the game 2-0. Then at 10:48, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) came up with his 19th goal of the year at even strength to give the Thrashers a dominating 3-0 lead before first intermission; with yet another point for R. Peverley (ATL) on the assist from the nely aquired Thrasher.. Then, at 18:44, B. Little (ATL) scored his team leading 21st goal on the season to make it 4-0 Thrashers! What an amazing first period of the year, the best all season.

In the second period, the Thrashers quickly added to their lead with a goal from M. Schneider (ATL) at 2:06 to give him 4 on the season and the Thrashers a 5-0 lead. However, Nashville finally scored their first goal of the game with J. Tootoo's (NSH) 4th on the season at 4:49 in the period. Those 2 goals were all the scoring that occured during the second period.

The final period of play was yet another great sign for the visiting Thrashers. Z. Bogosian (ATL) led it off with a quick goal, his first NHL goal and 1st on the season at 1:51 to make it 6-1 Atlanta. Then, at 11:46, J. Slater (ATL), added his 5th goal of the season at 11:46 to give the Thrashers their 7th final goal on the night to make it 7-1. Before the period could expire, Nashville scored on S. Weber's (NSH) 14th goal of the season to make the final tally 7-2 Thrashers.

Overall, I was extremely pleased to see the Thrashers play so well. My two boys both tallied points, and had great nights. The Thrashers host the Montreal Canadians next, on the 20th at 7 P.M.

Collector Summary:
Zach Bogosian: 1G, 1A, 2 pts, +4, 21:26 on ice, 2 shots, 4 hits given

This is one of the best games the Thrashers played all year. With the return of Zach Bogosian and Peverley's second game as a Thrasher, things were starting to look up.

In the opening frame, the Leafs got on top at 12:53 with a goal by L. Stempniak (TOR), his 7th on the season on the Leafs power play. Then at 18:44, the Leafs added another goal to the 1-0 lead by D. Moore (TOR), his 9th on the year to make it 2-0. Almost instantly, N. Hagman (TOR) added his 13th goal on the season at 19:40 to make the leade 3-0. The period ended with the score at 3-0, and Thrasher goalie J. Hedberg (ATL) would not return to the game.

The middle frame got underway with K. Lehtonen (ATL) in the goal for the Thrashers. At 1:10, Thrasher Captain I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 17th goal on the season to make the lead 3-1 Leafs. This goal gave R. Peverley (ATL) his 8th assist on the year and first point as an Atlanta Thrasher. Scoring ceased for another 14 minutes until B. Little (ATL) scored his 20th goal on the season at 15:38 to cut the lead to 1 goal, at 3-2 Leafs. It seemed that the goalie change at the first intermission was paying off heading into the 2nd intermission.

The 3rd period got underway with almost no action. Both teams played hard and tough until I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 18th goal on the year at 15:08, with an assist again from R. Peverley (ATL), to tie the game at 3-3. This was a huge comeback for the Thrashers, and they hoped to take the game into overtime.

Overtime began with the Thrasher fans on their feet, screaming for their team to score the last goal. Finally, at 3:51, R. Peverley (ATL) scored his 1st goal as a Thrasher, his 3rd goal on the year to give the Thrashers the win at 4-3 Thrashers in OT. I watched the game, and the goal came off of a faceoff win one-timer, that rebounded straight to Peverley who put it in the net. It was one of the most exciting times in the entire season.

The Thrashers improved to 15-25-5 on the year, with their next contest Saturday, the 17th as R. Peverley (ATL) returns to his previous team the Nashville Predators for the game at 8 P.M.

Collector Summary:
Zach Bogosian: 15:46 on ice, 3 shots, 2 hits given, 3 takeaways

Jim Slater: 11:24 on ice, 3 shots, 3 hits given, 3 blocked shots, 3 faceoffs won, 1 faceoff lost
