Can you believe the guys lined up and waited their turn to sign for him. I honestly can't believe what I saw. We had to hockey cards of Leland Irving and the guys told my son where he was. He signed both cards and I had a puck but did not know who Irving was. So unfortunately did not get Irving on a puck. I did see 2 guys just walk into the Ricoh while the others (10-12 waited their turn to sign). Still can't believe what I saw.

Hey everyone I know a few other members here went to the Chantilly show the last weekend in March. I was unable to meet any of them sadly and it was my first time at the CSA show (they have three a year) and my largest show ever. I wasn't expecting to see so much memorabilia there as I did, including helmets and jerseys but it was pretty neat. There was also a lot of unique artwork as well, such as 3D athlete portraits. You can see some of the guy’s work here: http://playactionportraits.com/index.html

I was there all three days and here are the pics I took of the event:

http://s58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0March%202010/

The athletes that were signing autographs were impressive. I saw Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Paul Hournung, Jerome Bettis, Herschel Walker, Mike Ditka, Doug Flutie, and more (most of which you can view from the link above to the pictures I took of the event)!!! The only one I got to meet and sign something for me was Brian Orakpo who I love since my favorite college is team is Texas and my favorite pro team is the Skins (he played for one and now plays for the other). Here are the pics of me and him, I especially like the second one since we did the hook em horns sign!!!

Overall I was very glad I was able to attend the show. I plan on going back and had a really good time. I honestly have spent more money on cards at other shows, but the atmosphere was different than a normal card show. There were tables everywhere and being so close to so many famous athletes was amazing! I would recommend anyone in the Virginia/Maryland area to try to make it out to the show at some point, it’s a good time!

Selection of cards: I thought there was a good selection. I saw years ranging for the at least the 50's (maybe older) to 2008.
The show doesn't emphasize one sport over another.

Selection of Wax Boxes: I know there was a decent selection for football and baseball but for others I don't know since I only collect football and baseball.

Pricing: Some I believe are a little pricey buy I don't really know since I've never bought wax (that is if you include a box of 2007 Score football, lol, and a box of 2005 Donruss Team Heroes baseball, retail box of 24packs at Wal-Mart)

Prices on cards: Me and my friend got cards below BV and I even got like 2-3 Greg Olsen base rookies for only 10cents each. Also I bought Serial #'ed cards, no name people for 10cents, Jersey and Autos varied.

Signers: No.

Admission Price: $1 as stated above

Raffles or Prizes: There are raffles, only raffle I heard was for $20! Plus they have auctions for cards, shirts, photos, and more. It's one thing at a time, NOT a silent auction.

Friendliness of Dealers: I found most all the people I dealt with to be nice. I got a discount from one guy. Instead of paying like $48.50 for the cards, which included 4 LT jerseys, he let me have the cards for $40. Hey around $8.50 isn't bad, more money to buy cards with!

Pictures: None, didn't bring a camera.

Video: Nope.

Overall Experience: I still loved the card show, even though it's only my 2-3 time going. I think it's a nice card show to go. Plus others must agree because it was crowded! (even though it wasn't really that big of

Shriners Auditorium Show – Wilmington Mass November 7, 2009
by Jeff Woodward (aka schwood)

So, I was asked to do a short write up on the Shriners Show in Wimington. This show is run by the GBSSC (Greater Boston Sports Collectors Club). What a great show! There are close to 250 tables, and this show certainly does not disappoint. And starting last year, it is held twice a year now. Once in November and once sometime in the summer. Unfortunately I missed the one in the summer.

A typical day (at this show in particular), I start out by showing up early on Saturday. Walk through the convention center and get a feel for what there is to offer. Usually I will head out to the restaurant and get some autographs. In the past I have gotten Dwight Evans, Jim Rice and Clay Buchholz (can you tell this show is in the Boston area). Then head back out and spend some money on my PC. And mixed in there will be getting trade bait for some of my favorite traders. Then my buddy and I will get a box to split and I might get another one, and then we go bust our stuff, and the day is complete.

This year was a little bit different. I get to the show late, arriving around noon. So, right off the bat, I am behind by three hours, and so not so much time to get situated at the show. So, I decide, I am going right to the spending. I have decided to skip the autographs this year. Good guests this year, I just didn’t have the time to spare. The lineup included Robin Yount, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Robert Parish, and many others.

As I walk into the convention center, it is set up the same as always. A split in the aisles across the whole center in front of me as I walk in, with four or five aisles of on each side, with tables on both sides of the aisle. If you have never been to a show, this one is really overwhelming. The first time I came to this show, I had no idea what to do, and spent most of money in the first half hour and didn’t even get to see everything before I was out of cash.

Anyway, my plan this year, was to walk the whole show and buy when I see something I really like. I have too much money with me this year. Or so I thought. Anyway, the first area off to the left as I walk in, is a lot of vintage stuff and also a lot of memorabilia. I am not a huge memorabilia collector and I have a lot of vintage stuff to keep me satisfied, and so I can bypass a lot of these areas. So, I do just that. When I say memorabilia, I mean pictures, bats, balls, pennants, and you pretty much name it, they have it here.

So, I move through the first aisle pretty quickly. I get to the second aisle. Now, let me preempt the rest of this by saying I collect Boston area stuff, and mostly cards. GU and Autos and whatever else I can get my hands on. So, I see a guy with some Boston stuff up on those display racks. I take a quick look at it. He has some nice Bruins Autos for 5 bucks a piece. Which to me is a steal. I go and buy these online, and I pay 3 bucks shipping alone. So, I pick up a nice Adam Oates Auto, Pete Peeters Auto, Wayne Cashman Auto, and Ken Hodge Auto for 20 bucks. To me, an absolute steal. I then continue on.

I get to the next aisle, and see a guy with a huge amount of lower end Autos for like 2 bucks a piece. Here comes some trade bait! I usually find great deals spread across the show. This guy has a ton. I think I bought 50 dollars worth of trade bait from this guy. Some really really great stuff. So, knock the trade bait off the list. Also found a couple of cool ex-Patriots and ex-Red Sox Autos in there as well. Could not believe these were only 2 bucks a piece.

I move down two tables and see a couple of things I could really use. He has some Sweet Spot Autos. Papelbon and Lester to be precise. I don't have these. I also see a couple of others that I could use for another trader whom I owe something. So, I pick up a Vlad and a Brooks Robinson which I know he has neither. So, knock that off the list as well. I also got a very nice Jerod Mayo Auto and a Jon Lester Just Auto (which unfortunately I didn't realize I already had). Oh well. I can trade it. This is sweet. I have been here a half hour. Knocked two things off my list, and haven't spent a ton of cash just yet.

I don't find too much else I am interested in over the next half hour. So, I continue on. I finish up with one half of the show. I meet up with my buddy, and he has gotten a couple of very nice cards. Again, a Red Sox only collector. So, he doesn't always find as much as I do.

I then continue on to the other half of the convention center. This place is really in the middle of an auditorium with all of the bleachers pulled back, so it just seems huge. So, I continue on. I find a few more things that I could use. A couple of lower end Red Sox autos, a great Jerod Mayo Auto and a one of my favorite pick ups of the day, my first Jason Bay auto in the Sox uni.

Then I find a guy selling some nice vintage. Well, I am looking for a nice Willie Mays for a very good friend of mine. I have to buy the one this guy has. It is sweet. And I just hope my buddy Ed does not have it. Anyway, I pick it up. I had found a couple of other things I could use for trade bait as well, but the prices the guys wanted for them was unreal, so I pass.

Last year, there was a table that all the guy had was Letter Patch Autos. I am working on a complete alphabet of Boston sports Letter Autos, and I am looking for two in particular. I figure this guy must have them. Unfortunately after searching the whole place, the guy is not there.

But, overall a good day so far. Now, the last thing my buddy and I do is always go and grab some boxes. Well, I have done well already, and don't need any boxes, but the kid in me needs to break some wax. So, I way overbuy some stuff. Boy was I not disappointed. I buy a box each of TTT, Ticket to Stardom, SPA 08, SPA 09, 09 Sweet Spot and 08 Heroes. Don't want to get overly verbose here, so I just tell you, I pulled some awesome stuff out of these. Felix Hernandez Bat Barrel Auto, Griffey GU Auto, Pence BTL, Uehara BTL, tons of other GU and Autos. Just a ton of cool stuff. My pull of the day was a sweet Gehrig GU /9 from TTT. I am planning on selling it online though. I also pulled a couple of decent Sox GU out of these boxes as well.

But, I have to say the pull of the day did not come out of one of my boxes. My buddy pulled a Tiexiera GU/Auto 1 of 1 out of TTT. Unfortunately for both of us, he plays for the Yankees, and we are Sox fans. But that card was sweet. He immediately put it online and it just sold the other day. And it pretty much paid for his whole day at the show.

Anyway, had a great time at the show. This is really a great show, and if you are ever in the area definitely hit up this show. Tons of great stuff there. Always good trade bait, great Boston stuff, and good prices on boxes. And this year was the best year for good hits from the boxes I bought. Got a ton of PC stuff, some great stuff for some of my favorite traders, and pulled a few very nice things out of the boxes I bought. So, I really can't complain.
The gibraltar show to me is still pretty good. I haven't met up with anyone from the site to trade, but I have found some great deals. It is definately the best place to get a box of cards, lots of great guys. I have had a chance to get to know several of the dealers of boxes and htey will give some good deals.

As for single hockey cards, there weren't that many dealers. Also there weren't too many people there looking to buy. It was really tough since I am looking to start selling a little more of the collection to focus my PC and get money to buy Sawchuk cards.

It was packed with dealers and deals were abound. As many dealers from TN had driven up as I know of six that were in attendance. Jeremy from Columbus, another guy from WV, and the rest from KY.

I bought some football at my first stop after saying hi to a few guys that always show up.
All in all it was a great show as I mentioned SCF to one or two guys that had not heard about it and just talked the hobby with a few others.

Well I was set up the past 3 days for the show at Neshaminy mall and wanted to share with everyone what happened. Friday started out slow but did pick up eventually, but my best days were Saturday and Sunday. While sitting at my table I got a little bored and decided to bust a box of 2009 Triple Threads and was very pleased with my results. I pulled a Bob Gibson 8 piece relic foldout. I would love to get scans up for everyone but I sold the card later that day. I also did very well the the Flyers and Phillies cards. With the Phillies being back in the World Series they were selling like hot cakes. The Flyers are always great sellers here in Philadelphia so I was able to sell many of them. My best day overall was Sunday where I was able to sell a 58 Mantle Flyers Quad auto and a kevin Kolb Exquisite patch, just to name a few. Overall the show was a great success and look forward to my next show at Montgomery Mall in PA in January. Thanks evryone for reading. I also made some nice pick ups through purchases and trades and I will post them up later.

As a pens fan you have to love this as what better than a actual game used Stanley Cup jersey of your favorite player (Letang).

I love talking to this young man year after year even though he never come to the site no matter how much I say about it LOL. He and his buddy have some sweet cards hopefully one day he joins.

Here another thing I love about the National meeting members and sharing their pickups. Asd you seen I added some videos of legend33 on the SCF Youtube channel.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Sportscardforum

Here a member that drove all the way from Nova Scotia how that for some hobby love I have more breaks to add from CMCCDONALD1.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFKtYYG98as

Will add some more of his as time allows. Might need to holler at the PINCHO below as he a Mess collector. He stopped by the table and introduce himself and shared his show pickup as well Here him with the card and a close of his newest addition for the PC.
Then I had a guy drop me a line to take a picture of a associate of Press Pass. So went and found out who she was and had her partner take this picture. Hopefully, my boss doesn't mind me running around on the clock to get some pictures per a member request.

I went to a show today at Robert Morris University outside of Pittsburgh. I was not planning to attend but at the last minute I saw the opportunity to get out of the house, so I grabbed some stuff, and made my way out to see what was there. I picked up a few things for my PC (see scans). Over all the show looked like it had a good turn out and all the dealers where in a good mood.

I got in line for Duffy Dyer signing for $10 plus the ROMLB for $12. (see scan) Duffy Dyer was my favorite player when I was a little kid. My dad is a huge Met's fan. We named our Irish Setter Duffy. The first game I went to in 1976 was the Met's vs. Pirates at Shea Stadium and Duffy Dyer was now catching for the Pirates. He wasn’t the every day catcher and not an all star but it was great to meet him and talk with him a little bit.

I was able to pick up a couple of things for my hockey PC - I bought the 84-85 OPC #67 Steve Yzerman RC for $50 down from the $80 asking price ($100 BV). I needed this card for my set and was impressed with the overall condition compared to what I've seen on eBay or what is generally available with OPC of that era. The vintage Penguins cards I picked up where just plain cheap. I put together the Pens, the Brodeur RC, the mini pennant, the 1998 U.S.A. Olympic puck, and the 1977 OPC Pens logo for $17. The Bill Guerin BAP Auto and the 1971-72 Topps #50 Bobby Hull I paid $23 for both. I also got a box of 2008-09 UD Series 1 for $50. I will probably break that box after the game Monday or Tuesday. Or tonight if I can't sleep ha ha!

Showing up for the last few hours of a show can be really great. The dealers have either made out really well, or not, but either way they are eager to deal and pretty open to negotiating. I was able to trade if I wanted and also sold a nice 200+ card lot of VG-EX 1960 Topps baseball that included High numbers and listed cards to a dealer that had a need for them in his inventory. In years past I used to always go to shows on the first night and it seemed as if the dealers where a little uptight because they had lots of inventory, not much cash, and where anxious as to what sort of turnout the show would receive. First night is great if you’re buying wax or looking for something super rare.

I saw some great memorabilia that you don’t see every local show like these big 24"x36" box matted Sports Illustrated covers of the Steelers, thousands of auto baseballs and photos, tons of cool oddball items, programs, warehouse wax dealers, and regional/national dealers with some real quality stuff. I met some local people and made some contacts for buying, selling, and trading. Well worth the trip. The show is billed as a National show but I would say it was pretty much a regional.

After only 2 hours I was back in time to catch the second period on TV and get back to work on the "Honey Do" list. Looking forward to the National but that will be a game time decision too.

Thanks – Kevin

Just got back from the Lexington National Guard Armory. Well for a second straight month the show has yielded some hockey. So I have to say I love days like this. As I picked up the following cards at this show:

A lot of game used from the $1 box minus the Greg Ellis that came out of the (6 for a $1 box). Not bad when you can get a small lot and beat any ebay price due to shipping cost that one would incur.

Some Steeler vintage along with some refractors (6 for a $1 box).

Some Baseball vintage and hockey (6 for a $1 box)

Baseball vintage (6 for a $1 box)

Hockey lot of UD Young Guns (6 for a $1 box) except the Kessel that was in the 3 for a $1. I didn't argue on that point as I was very happy as the card books $30.

In total I spent $3 on the (six for a $1) box 18 roughly and $5 for the game used as the dealer gave me a deal for buying so many. So I spent $8 and still was under the 30 percent on the Phil K rookie alone. Have to love days like this. Last month it was a awesome lot of Jeff Carter rookies in the (six for a $1 box) and the Phil K this month. I can only look forward again to the show to hope the dealer brings some more hockey.

I encourage anyone that likes to hit a decent show as it only $15 dollars per table and has a decent crowd. If you want specifics on the show as a customer or a dealer just ask as I can send you to people that can give you their honest opinion.

Ever feel like dropping by the card show drop me a line love to meet new folks and just talk about the hobby.

The largest and longest running show in Ohio did not leave card collectors disappointed but happy they came out to the Moeller high school show in Cincinnati.

I had a chance to sit down with show promoter Steve Schell and talk about the show. Mr. Schell and associates Adam Knight and Gary Nunn see that the show they have been promoting for the last 7 years go off without a hitch. Dealers from all over the United States, and even Canada, come to this Cincinnati mainstay to sell their cards and other sports collectibles to the collecting nation. There are high-end, graded vintage cards to 1991 Topps baseball boxes to be had here.

Mr. Schell informed me that the average attendance for the show is over 1000 people and a large part of the draw is the autograph guests they bring in, as well as the daily auctions they run at the show. Steve Carlton the headline autograph guest signed for collectors all three days of the show; no one was left out for an autograph.

Here are some cards that I purchased from TMS Sportscards & Collectibles, aka Gump76 on Sportscardforum.

Take a look at the row boxes put out by Chad Smith, owner of Wolverine Sportscards, ranging from 10 cents to 10 dollars per card.

There were great deals to be had at this table!!! Chad even gave away cards for answering trivia questions about cards. Here are the cards Chad picked out when I asked to take a picture of the cards he thought to be the best in his two showcases.

My favorite card of the show, unfortunately I did not take a picture, was the 1 of 1 dual cut autograph of Joe Dimaggio and Roberto Clemente owned by Gemini Sports Cards out of Columbus, Ohio.

This was a great show. I will be sure to be back at the famous day-after-Thanksgiving show in November for the autograph guests, auctions and great deals.

This is bigkev17 signing off until next time.

Another mall show has come and gone, with a great turnout on Friday and Saturday despite the excellent weather. Twelve dealers in all set up at this high traffic, tri-state mall show. There There were cards, of course, comics, t-shirts, autographed memorabilia and some toys to be had at this three day venue.

There were enough tables to go around for everyone, as well as table covers to keep your boxes and other items placed under the table out of site from the patrons.

Customers got there early each day of the show, generally the regulars, to see what the dealers had to picked up since the last show or the day before in most cases. Most dealers kept busy with at least two to three customers at their table during the peak hours of 3 to 8 on Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 3 on Sunday.

Here is a picture of a card that I picked up in a purchase from another dealer friend of mine, Rich Johnson of All Star Inc.

Here is a picture of one of Rich Johnson's showcases at the show.

All in all it was a really good show put on by young, entrepreneur Nathan Freeman. The news even showed up and interviewed him about the show and the hobby in general.

If you didn't get a chance to get out and see us at this show, be sure to stop by next time, the first weekend in June, say hi and maybe even leave with a little momento from yesteryear. Maybe Sportscardforum can make an appearance at the next one...hint..hint..

Be sure to check out my write up of the Moeller high school show in Cincinnati next week.
