This is the first game the Thrashers will have played since superstar Russian Ilya Kovalchuk has been named Captain of the Thrashers. Also, Zach Bogosian was brought back from his rehab assignment to rejoin the team, and new Thrasher Rich Peverley will be playing his first game in Atlanta.

The first period got under way with lots of excitement in Atlanta, especially with new Captain I. Kovalchuk on the ice. The scoring got under way at 5:37 in the first period when T. White (ATL) scored his 14th goal of the season on the power play to give the Thrashers the early 1-0 lead. A little over a minute later, D. Alfredsson (OTT), scored his 12th on the season (also on the power play) at 6:41 to knot it at 1-1. Then at 15:28, C. Thorburn scored his 4th goal on the year to give the Thrashers the 2-1 lead for the time being. And rounding out the scoring in the first, J. Spezza (OTT) scored his 18th on the season on the Senator power play at 18:09 to know it again at 2-2.

The remainder of the contest was rather boring with only one more goal to be scored. It came at 14:23 in the 2nd period by D. McAmmond, giving him 3 goals on the year and making the score 3-2 Ottawa.

The 3rd period held no scoring, and the game ended at 3-2 Senators.

The Thrashers feel again to 14-25-5 on the year, with their next game on Friday against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
