Really Topps....Really?!

Rate this Entry
Hey everyone,
It's been awhile since my last blog, so here is another about something that has been burning me for sometime now. Like always, smoke'm if you got'em.

In 2001, Topps reintroduced the Topps Gold parallels that originally came out in the 1992 set, inserted 1:36 (1 per box). The 2001 reintroduction were to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Topps. However, these new cards were serial numbered to the year of the release. Since 2001, Topps has released the parallel in every set to present and the odds were based on which box you bought. Jumbo/HTA were inserted 1:1, Hobby 1:4-1:6, retail 1:6-1:10 and so forth; HOWEVER, this year, Topps releases the Gold parallels at a rate of 1:18.... REALLY Topps?!

The Topps Gold border parallels are the ONLY parallel, insert, whatever that I look forward to pulling from the box. I do enjoy building the set and seeing how much I need/completed, but the joy of seeing the Gold border was what really made my day. I have almost 500+ gold borders from 2001-present and plan on seeing how many more I can get.

Now don't get me wrong, the 2011 Diamond sparkle parallels are nice but why mess with the already awesome parallel like the gold border. In my opinion, if Topps was going to introduce a new parallel for their Diamond anniversary, they could have done the respectable thing like retire the Gold parallels and then serial number the Diamonds to #/2011 and so forth.

Topps.... you really know how to bring a person down. I have bought 3 blasters, a HTA, and rack packs but only pulled 5. That is FAR below the normal odds because of the diamond parallel. 5 parallels overall really disheartens someone who looks primarily for those specific serial numbered parallels.

Topps, if you reading this, C'mon... help a loyal customer out.

Ok, if you made it through this mindless rambling, I applaud you. Any questions, comments, or concerns can be PM'd or posted. If you think I am an idiot for this blog, please feel free to state that, I do not get offended by people.
