Collecting Yastrzemski - November, 2012

Rate this Entry
Well, November is over, all the awards have been passed out & the Winter meetings have begun. Congrats to everyone, especially Miguel Cabrera for his astounding year, capturing both the Triple Crown & AL MVP awards!

Fall ball is over for Vanderbilt, so it appears that I'll have little to no news on Michael until their season starts up in February. Is it February yet???

It took me til midway through this month to make any SCF deals or win any auctions on eBay. Both of which yielded items of Mike. First, a deal on the site for a 1986 Southern League All-Stars Jennings #2 Mike Yastrzemski, which I was ever so pleased to find on SCF, as the only one on the "bay" is graded an 8 by BGS & the seller wants $50 for it. I so want to write to the guy & let him know that I don't have that much wrapped up in my entire collection on Mike, which now includes that card, 3 other cards (1 - BGS 9, 1 - BGS 9.5) & 2 autographs! I even figured in the cost of having those 2 graded! For anyone following my blog close enough, you're probably wondering about the 2nd autograph of Mike. That was my first auction win of the month & it is an absolute beauty. It's a Durham Bulls B&W photo postcard from 1984-85. Not entirely sure on the year as I haven't found a checklist for these anywhere as of yet. My only regret is that I wish I could've gotten this one sooner, as I would have sent the other auto, which is on an index card, out to the public signing that Carl was at this month. But at the time that was my only signature that I had of his & didn't want to risk losing it.

I made one more deal here on the site, but this time it was for a 2012 Topps 1987 Topps Minis Carl Yastrzemski TM109, which of course I would have never pulled from a pack myself, because that's just how my luck is!
It wasn't until the final week of the month that I found a great deal on an auction lot that I just couldn't pass up. I have to thank the Yastrzemski family for having such a tough last name to spell for the incredible deal! For under $20 I ended up with an autographed 8x10, an autographed 1964 Topps Giant, a FDC from 1984, a 1963 Jay Publishing issue, a sealed 1979 Kellogg's (9930 AB's) SP & one of the 1985 Kahn's Kielbasa Singles label! I know at one time I had the 1979 Kellogg's SP, but over the course of years & about 20 moves I just don't know what happened to it. Of course that one wasn't sealed though!

Well, that's it for this month & with Christmas right around the corner I doubt I'll be making too many purchases to add to the collection in December.

Special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my collection this month to:
kt70011 - 1986 Southern League All-Stars Jennings #2 Mike Yastrzemski
2000Doubles - 2012 Topps 1987 Topps Minis Carl Yastrzemski TM109

SCF SuperCollector status: Carl - 12.1%, Mike - 44.4%, Michael - 100%

Thanks for the read!
