Collecting Yastrzemski - January, 2013

Well, the new year is under way & I already can't wait for Spring training games to start up! Although if my work schedule doesn't let up I won't get to enjoy much baseball at all this year. Through the first month I was only able to avoid making the hour plus drive to work for 4 out of the 31 days. It sure did put a damper on adding much to the PC this month.

In fact the entire first half of the month saw no new incoming pieces at all. It wasn't until the 3rd week of the month when I finally was able to get a couple deals done on the site which included 2 of Carl's 2009 Topps Triple Threads cards #/1350 & #/525 & his 2003 Topps Gallery Heritage card.

The fourth week brought in one more from another deal here on SCF which included a 2009 Topps Legends Commemorative Patch card. It was also at the end of this week that I had discovered that Michael was going to be at a public signing at Vanderbilt. I didn't find out about it until that morning when I got home from work & the 7-8 hour drive after my 12 hour shift wouldn't have added up all that well for me. I did make a shout out to some fellow members here on the site, but everyone in the area was too busy to make it over there to get me a signature on one of Vandy's new 2013 Baseball schedule posters featuring Michael. It was worth the shot to ask though & I do thank them for their time to get back with me about it!

The final week saw one deal here & one on eBay. From here, I picked up the 2005 Artifacts AL/NL Artifacts jersey card. My eBay purchase was a little pricey, but it wasn't definitely something that you don't see every day.

It's a sealed bottle of wine! The image on the back of the bottle is engraved into the glass commemorating Carl's Triple Crown year. The signature isn't the greatest anymore, but it is authentic. This one actually got a sour response from my wife, but I figured since I had worked so many hours this month, I was entitled to splurge a little on myself. It's not like it cost as much as the new Ipod touch that I had bought for her earlier in the month!

The seller actually sent me a message afterwards wanting more money for shipping it to me because they didn't realize that the USPS wouldn't accept such items & they had to send it UPS. It's not like this is a new policy from them! I didn't quite understand what they expected though as they asked me to split the $20 shipping fee with them & I had already paid $10 that was included from the auction. Apparently they wanted more that the 50/50 split!

I would've thought about doing it, if it wasn't for the fact that another bidder took me right to my max bid & then stopped. They had to know they reached my max as their bid was only $.24 less than what the bid was at when they stopped! I really dislike shill bidders!

I did try adding a few other rare items to my PC, but snipers prevented me from getting them. Oh well, that just leaves me with more money for the National in August! 178 days to go & counting!

Special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my collection!
