Collecting Yastrzemski - March, 2013

Rate this Entry
Well, Spring is officially here & Major League Baseball has started for the season! Although I'm still more anxious to get home from work to read the box scores on how Michael is doing down in Nashville. Unfortunately his average has dropped some this month as he's now batting .297 for the season & he did commit his first error of the season. But his power & speed are improving as he added another HR, triple, 6 doubles & 5 stolen bases this month. I was also fortunate enough to be home to listen to & later watch the highlight from the triple steal game! Michael was up to bat during the play & he didn't give anything away to the opposing pitcher or catcher. He took one for the team by staying in the batter's box, getting knocked over by his teammate stealing home! Seeing that made up for the fact that I didn't get to add any of his memorabilia this month.

March started off quickly for me though as the first week brought in the 1963 Topps Peel-Off (Instruction back) which is in beautiful shape! Followed soon thereafter by a trade on SCF for a 2010 MacFarlane Cooperstown Collection variant figure of Carl.

The second week was busy with a pair of deals on SCF, one for the 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame Stan Musial/Ralph Kiner/Carl Yastrzemski #YKM 24/50 & the second for the 2013 Topps Heritage Baseball Flashbacks #BFCY. As well as an eBay purchase for the 2005 Sweet Spot Classic Silver #11 78/100.

Week three started off by taking me to a live auction that yielded an unexpected bonus that I didn't discover until I made it back home. It was the 1978 Pepsi #39 complete panel. It was a very nice surprise hidden at the bottom of a box full of packs of soft sleeves with around 20 others from that set. A pair of eBay wins ended out the week bringing in the 1967 Coke Red Sox cap #R2

And this little beauty, a Louisville Slugger bat pen from the 1960's!

The final week of the month saw one final eBay win for me for one of Mike's minor league team sets. The 1987 ProCards Hawaii Islanders #1! I figured it had been a while since I picked up anything of Mike's, so he was overdue!

Now, I really would have loved to have been able to tell you that on the final day of the month that I won an auction for the 1977 Topps Venezuelan Sticker issue of Carl, but unfortunately I had to leave for work before the auction ended & of course I got outbid! Oh well, you can't win them all! Besides, I think this was a very good month for me with a nice mixture of cards & memorabilia.

As always, very special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my PC this month:
