Why can't A-Roid accept his punishment like a man?

Rate this Entry
Alex Rodriguez doesn't get it.

On Monday, his teammate, Francisco Cervelli, was, along with Rodriguez, suspended for using performance enhancing drugs (PED's). Cervelli, on the disabled list since late April, accepted his penalty without fuss or drama. The next time the Yankees see him, barring the playoffs, would be at Spring Training in Tampa next February.

Other players, including the Mets' Jordany Valdespin, Detroit's Jhonny Peralta, & Texas' Nelson Cruz, also accepted 50-game bans and opted against an appeal. Rodriguez, a tabloid magnet, preferred to appeal, feeling that the right move for him is to be back on the field with the Yankees. No, it isn't, no matter how much the Yankees need him, what with the injury plague they're dealing with.

The right move is to take the punishment like a man, skip the appeal process, which means a ruling wouldn't be made until after the season, and disappear until 2015. The problem is, Rodriguez doesn't believe he did anything wrong, and that would include lying to MLB investigators 4 years ago when he said that he only used PED's when he was with Texas. He thinks the Yankees conspired against him, in conjunction with MLB. That sounds like a paranoid, delusional fool in denial to me.

It's all about the money with Rodriguez. It always has been, even though he's not represented by Scott "20 Mule Team" Boras anymore. He actually relishes the attention he's getting from the NY tabloids, even if they're pleading with him to do the right thing and go away.

I find it amusing he's still dating ex-wrestler Torrie Wilson. Another guy associated with both WWE and A-Roid's alma mater, the University of Miami might consider sending him a noisy message if they were to ever meet at an alumni function, but in the eyes of a lot of people, A-Roid has already hit Rock Bottom.

Do us all a favor, A-Roid. Forget the money, the attention, and the appeals and denials. Take the suspension, walk away, and we can all move on.

Thanks. As long as the attention remains on A-Roid, on or off the field, this ain't going away anytime soon, and I wish it would.

He only tested positive once, after they started imposing penalties for it. Ryan Braun lied and claimed that the tester discriminated against him because he is Jewish and only got a I think 60 game ban........but Selig wanted to run A-Rod out of the game for good. But it's all a big joke though. Test positive for illegal drugs, PED's, or hit your wife and you get a slap on the wrist.......but bet on a sport (and not throw the game), and you are banned for life. It depends on how valuable the player(s) are to the league. The same goes for all of the major sports, it's all about the money.

Naturally, and it's the culture a lot of us have grown up in.

Separate television from the business of the major sports, and maybe there are reforms after all.
