It's safe to say that 2015 was a lost season for Jenrry Mejia. Now, his career is lost, and, unless you buy into his denials, it's his own fault.

Mejia was forced to sit on the sidelines for most of 2015, and watched as his Mets teammates upset the applecart, won the NL East, eliminated Los Angeles and Chicago, and advanced to the World Series, where they fell in 5 games to Kansas City. Mejia was injured on Opening Day, opening the door for Jeurys Familia to have a breakout season as the Mets' new closer. Then, it got out that Mejia had tested positive for PED's, and was suspended for 80 games. He came back in July, but went right back onto the suspended list after a 2nd positive test. You'd think, then, that he'd realize he was going in the wrong direction with his career.

At the time of the 2nd suspension, it was assumed that the Mets would part company with Mejia, and wash their collective hands of the problem. Then, in December, Mejia signed a 1 year deal. Two months later, that contract's been voided as Mejia flunked a 3rd test for PEDs, and has been banished from MLB.

Three positive tests in a year. Unprecedented? You bet. It's also a sign of utter stupidity. Not quite on the level of Johnny Manziel---yet---but to read of Mejia denying he had done anything wrong makes me shake my head and wonder if he actually knew what he was doing.

After six seasons in the Mets organization, maybe more (RC's came out in 2010), how could Mejia be so stupid to not know what a performance enhancing drug is? The mind absolutely boggles.

Mejia can apply for reinstatement in 2018. I doubt very seriously the Mets would take him back again. I doubt that unless he finally figures out what's legal and what isn't, anyone's going to take a chance, not even in, say, Japan. And he only has himself to blame.
