Nothing to do with the hobby but...

I feel like blogging about this and so I will. Today on 22nd March 2009, I woke up to a rather sad headline, Jade Goody (a celebrity here in England) has died of cervical cancer. Yes I know many people die of cancer but not at 27 and not of a form of cancer which could have been cured if it had been found early enough.
Jade become famous here in 2002, just when I moved over. What did she do you say? Well, she was a reality TV star, yes one of those who get famous for nothing else than the fact that they entertained the nation for a whole summer. She was part of the third series of Big Brother and fascinated people with her lack of knowledge about most anything...yet somehow she stuck around going from reality show to reality show and fronting each and every gossip magazine in the Country.
In 2007, she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and created outrage by calling a Bollywood film star (Shilpa Shetty) "Shilpa Popodum or whatever her name is" as she put it. A media storm followed and she was villified left, right and centre. Yet, she managed to pull back from it somehow and went on to appear on the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother alongside Shetty. This is where she was told live on TV that results from the check-up she had at her doctor's were in and that she was suffering from cervical cancer. That was in August 2008...Less than 8 months later, unfortunatelly, the cancer had spread to her bowel, lungs and groin and sadly she died on Mother's day (yes mother's day is in March here) leaving behind her two sons (a five and a four year old).
So I guess what I want to say is; girls, let's not be stupid and not get that annoying yearly check-up. Smear tests are never pleasant but in the end, they could save our life...
