For the first game of the second half of the hockey season, this was certainly upward looking for Thrashers fans!

The first period began with no scoring at all. Both teams had penalty kills which lasted deep into the first, with the period ending at a 0-0 tie.

The second period began with a goal for C. Armstrong (ATL) at 3:03 to give him his 11th on the season. Then a couple minutes later, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) got his 15th goal on the season at 5:31 on the ATL powerplay. For the first time in a while, Atlanta was leading a game, and hadnt let the opponent climb back in it instantly. Suddenly, at 14:00, J. Slater (ATL) scored his 4th goal on the season giving the Thrashers a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd intermission.

The third period was filled with doubt as Thrashers fan thought they couldnt possibly hold the lead. Then, M. Reasoner (ATL) scored his 7th goal of the season at 2:09 to give the Thrashers a commanding 4-0 lead. As the period came to a close, K. Lehtonen had a shutout in the making, and ended up tallying another shutout for the record.

The Thrashers improved to 14-23 on the season with their next game against the Florida Panthers in Florida, on Saturday.
