I agree MCF. I saw a Brandstater this summer I was going to bid on, but I was in NYC when it went off, and totally forgot about it. I got back to my hotel room, and remembered about an hour late. It went for $35. Another chance will come, I just need to be patient.
I wanted to tell you about another Contenders tidbit many may not know about. In 2000, there were Championship Ticket parallels numbers to 100. Did you know there is also an un-numbered version? I don't know if they exist for the whole set, but in one box I bought back then, one which contained some fantastic hits in the Brady rookie and the Brady Round Numbers, I also pulled several Championships with no numbering. Lucky for me, two of them were Broncos in Terrell Davis and Brian Griese. I also pulled Drew Bledsoe and Emmitt Smith, who i collected in the 90's. I'll post the Emmitt here in a bit.
Got great deals on both Claretts! The first one I grabbed was the Limited preview /10. That one set me back all of $25. The regular one came about a year later, for all of $30. Just shows if your patient, deals can be had WAY under book. Although there is no book for the Ltd. Preview.
JWinn - I did not know about the un-numbered championship tickets. Have you ever found any info on print run numbers on un-numbered CT's from 2000?
Sorry MCF, I have not. I called Playoff back then to ask about them, and they seemed embarrassed, and just wanted me to send them back to them. I declined.
2011 PANINI NEWS Happy Thanksgiving to the members of the Playoff Contenders Group. So far panini has only given us a brief preview of 2011. The following link will get you to the must see pictures of the new cards, inserts and rookie tickets. I will post links to news blasts regarding 2011 Playoff Contenders. http://paniniamerica.wordpress.com/2...t-see-images/#
SPOTLIGHT PLAYOFF CONTENDERS CARD OF THE WEEK -Nov 20, 2011 2011 Quad Auto - Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson This card has yet to be released. Finding this quad autograph in a fresh pack would make any collector happy. Quad autos work better for quartets who have been together with the same team and have been part of a successful program. Four autos on the same card may certainly bring the focus to the autographs but we should expect well integrated and complementary graphics from Panini on these quads. Print runs have yet to be announced but expect this card to be in extremely limited supply. On a side note - Charles Woodson debuted as a Raider in 1998 and was not part of the rookie ticket auto series. I would guess that the Bowman certified autos are his best rookie card. Consequently, these are the only autographed cards he signed as a rookie. However, the 1998 Playoff Contenders Leather Gold card was limited to only 27 made. The leather red cards came in leather boxes but are much more frequently encountered.
Thanks for the preview MCF! Looks like it's gonna be a nice product. Ready to pre-order a case anytime.
@Jordan: I happen to have a 2000 Contenders Championship Ticket of Elway that's not numbered. I was unaware that they were numbered, since it's the only one I have.
I have a couple that are numbered to 100. I forget who. I just watch the Tom Brady's from time to time to judge it's real value, and have seen a few of them on e-bay. All the Championships so far that I have seen there have been numbered to 100. Bur yeah, I am under the impression that the un-numbered versions are errors, and probably rarer. The guy I talked to way back then was not happy I had pulled them, and really wanted me to send them back. I should mention I search pretty regularly for Rod Smith Contenders, and that's one I have been watching for, an un-numbered 2000 Championship. Haven't found one yet.
