Not trying to be mean, but how about asking your 9 year old son what hobby box he would want?
Well the majority of baseball hobby boxes under $100 pretty much only contain (1) auto per box, here are a few choices that offer a little more:
2012 Bowman Platinum Baseball $109 a box
- Two Autographs
- One Autographed Relic
- 100 Total Cards
2012 Topps Finest$66 a box
- One Numbered Rookie Refractor Autograph
- One Numbered Autographed Jumbo Relic Rookie Autograph
- One Faces of the Franchise Insert
- Two Finest Moments Inserts
- One Game Changers Insert
- Four Refractors
- Two X-Fractors
2012 Topps Allen & Ginter $78 a box
- Three Total Hits (Autographs, Relics, Cut Signatures, Vintage Allen & Ginter Cards and Rip Cards)
- 24 Mini Cards Including Four Mini Inserts
- 20 Inserts
- One Box Loader
- 12 Short Prints
- 193 Total Cards
Another suggestion since your son is 9, he might appreciate a box of Triple Play since there are animated cards and targeted towards kids, no auto or GU hits but they are still fun looking cards and go about $22 a box.

Thanks Cardbandit. They are a birthday present he doesn't know he is getting.
I would go with Topps Finest or regular Topps. If they are a gift, he will treat them well. Guaranteed to get some sort of auto/jersey combo. Allen and Ginter is too many non baseball cards for a young kid to enjoy. Platinum is fine, but geared towards propsects.
i would get something a little older 07 was a good year so was 08 and that way maybe he will get some players he likes.
well he would of been 5 maybe not lol
