Would the wnba not be using these women essentially as (please do not get offended) prostitutes if they used the players' bodies to generate more interest - money to the league?

The reason I don't like the wnba is because they don't have a colorado team, and when I went to a CSU womens basketball it was pretty bad.

I was watching a comedian once and he pretty much said that going to work at a conventional job is akin to being a prostitute. Someone who works a regular job just like a prostitute are doing the same thing. Both are getting up and leaving their house to be paid to do something that they do not want to do. But getting back to your question I don't think that the wnba should pressure anyone to pose nude but they should let it be know that if any of them do decide to do so they will not be shunned but instead celebrated and will ultimately end up with more marketing opportunites and thefore putting more money in their pockets.

The reasons female athletes don't get any "love" is because quite frankly, they're boring to watch. Take the WNBA, I've been to games before (they couldn't even give away tickets to see the Shock before they relocated), I found it REALLY boring. Just seemed like a layup drill to me.

There is exceptions (such as the USA Womens soccer team). If it was more entertaining to the general public, people would tune in.

(and for the record, nobody in WWE does playboy anymore since they want to promote the "family friendly" thing)

I have to disagree with you on that. Look at all the female non athletes who posed in playboy. They are just as respected and loved as those who didn't. Most men read Sports Illustrated and Playboy. Since you hardly ever read about the wnba in SI why not promote them in playboy? Without getting in graphic details playboy is not really a porn magazine and it's pictures are almost just like when Candace Parker posed in espn the magazine the body issue. It will show how athletic and in great shape the ladies are in and they will attract a larger fan base. As far as I know only 1 wnba baller ever posed in playboy and she was a fringe player who's career already ended. This is a gold mine for the wnba.

Did you seriously just explain to me what Playboy is?

I didn't say it would detract from what respect and dignity they already have, I'm saying it wouldn't bring more and ultimately the problem is a lack of respect from men. So it would do nothing to help the sport, just individual athletes. They wouldn't be taken any more seriously.

I would actually like to see a sport like volleyball get a pro league as womens volleyball is exciting and fun to watch.

Not a bad idea. Women's beach volleyball has the perfect mix of sexuality and athletism. Why can't the wnba work the same way?

I'm talking about the athletism, not sexuality haha. Volleyball doesn't need sexuality to be exciting just like mens football and basketball doesn't need sexuality to be exciting.

I think its about what you are willing to spend your entertainment dollar on.

To me women's basketball is slightly harder to watch than mens. Both are droll, lifeless contests with little on offer. Am I going to spend any money watching women play B-Ball?, certainly not, as I don't feel anything, I have no emotion other than wasting money........ it's like staring at a wall.

Vince had his female wrestlers pose for Playboy in the 90s. They don't even do that anymore (do they?). I mean do people still care about Playboy with the Internet?

Was waiting for this to come up. Why worry about female athletes posing when you can find the same thing with more attractive people on the Internet for free..

Yeah plus the female "wrestlers" were already famous before doing a Playboy shoot. Sable was asked by Hef at the height of the WWF to do Playboy I believe. It was the top rated cable show on TV and even took a dent from Monday Night Football ratings. Somebody from the WNBA doing a Playboy shoot would be equivalent to somebody from TNA doing one and they probably even have a larger fan base.
