THe problem is unless you're willing to fight to the death for either the Republican Party or the Democrat party, you can't get a job.
In Canada, politics is too boring for real commentary.

To the arrogant: I can't see that. Like I said above, we all say stupid/arrogant/ridiculous things, that doesn't make us stupid/arrogant/ridiculous. Defending your statement doesn't make you any of those things. Trying to claim it was something it wasn't kind of does though. Turning everything around on the other person definitely does. It also makes you a liar if none of it is true.
To the angry: I can see that more because it is a comment on the person, not the statement, but is "angry" really an insult? If someone called you happy or sad or hungry would you be insulted? If so, why?

A lot of it has to do with tone. Your tone in typing might differ WILDLY from the recipient's tone in reading. Text messages have gotten me in trouble more than a few times. And I've completely gone overboard on texts from others.
That's half the fun of eBay, knowing exactly what to say and how to say it in a completely innocent way, knowing full well the guy on the other end of things is gonna have a meltdown :D

Hahaha true enough. Maybe it's because I've been having discussions on various themed messageboards for a lot longer than I've been back into cards, but I don't find it difficult to discern tone. Sometimes I'm wrong, but it is possible to get a point across in a way no one feels insulted.
I guess what I'm getting at is I think people are feigning anger over being insulted for the purpose of effect. There have been times all I want to do is tell someone they're insulting and talking to them is pointless, but the amount of times I've actually done that is minute by comparison. In some cases it's the only option, some people will just shout and never discuss anything, but the majority of the time, it seems to be the "end all" that everyone keeps in their back pocket. Frankly, I'm insulted at the amount of people claiming to be insulted here. If this is genuinely as big a problem as it is claimed, then the mods here are doing a horrible job. In reality, I think they're very good, if occasionally heavy handed with the "archive" hammer. Either I'm crazy and the mods here are awful, or a lot of people are pretending insults exist when they're just not there.

You're not crazy, these days that might be a disadvantage tho hahahaaaa. What you have to consider tho is that we're Canadians, and we're boring and uber-polite and allllll of the other stereotypes. AND we don't tend to see things in stark black & white. Now I'm not saying that the people we're talking to and "insulting" are the black & white types........actually I might be saying that. Most of the people in the middle are too busy with their jobs and lives to go up on the comment boards to rail about the "National-Socialist Communist Fascist Regime" down south.
Personally, I like Victoria Jackson's fans on Facebook. I never out-and-out insult them or tell them they live in a bubble, I just repeatedly ask "How many of you or your friends have EVER been asked to show your ID papers by the authorities, or had your guns seized, or been hauled away in the middle of the night to a FEMA concentration camp, or been prohibited from worshipping your diety in any way on Saturday or Sunday or whenever, or woke up to see the National Guard standing on every street corner with machine guns at the ready?"
No one ever gives me an answer to that, they just call me names and tell me to keep drinking the Kool-Aid. And that gives me joy.

Honestly, I never post on the politics forum just because no matter what I say, somebody will inevitable disagree with me and blow their top off. I agree with you, seems like nobody can ever have actual conversations anymore

I'm half German descent, so I love a good argument. I'm just finding it harder and harder to find a good one.

I have nothing wrong with an argument if it is insightful and controlled, but when people lose it....

There's another point. Is this stuff keeping out people who could really add to the discussion?
