    12/13 UD Series 2??

Does anyone know if 12/13 UD 2 will be released late, the past years it's been released in Feb.

Chance are they will. But we have to wait because now no one can tell since the season need to start and then rookie need to play at least one match.

It pretty much has to be.

I would be shocked if Upper Deck would have made a Sereis 2 at all, if the lockout continued for the whole season. Now they've got to make cards of the vets (that should be easy) but they won't even be able to get pre-season photography of any rookies for another week. No way this product could actually be made, and released in Feb. Expect it in March, maybe April.

From a financial point of view, UD would be smart to have a long delay for UD2. Pack in all the rookies that play in January and February. They could sell a lot of boxes in May if all the new rookies are in the product.

It will be interesting to see if the usual cutoff date rules apply for this shortened season. In a normal NHL year, the cutoff for new rookies to be included is January 31st or the All-Star Game, depending on the year. I can't imagine that UD and Panini would want to go through this season without including Yakupov, Galchenyuk, etc. if they debut later than the start of the season. But they also have a release calendar to adhere to - if everything gets shuffled back 2-3 months because they need more time to cram everything into the late season releases, it's going to be a logistical nightmare during the summer, a time when typically the players are thinking about non-hockey card related issues.

UD has regularly shown that they can get UD1 out within a month of the start of the season. It's just simple photography for the YG's so they don't have to dwell too much on autographs, etc. for an UD2 release starring all the big guns that people are going to want included. There's no reason that UD2 can't be out by the end of February, and perhaps it can include updated photography for a lot of the players that switched teams during the summer. I know not everybody is going to be clamouring for the likes of Brandon Prust and Colby Armstrong in Habs uniforms, but for us Montreal fans it's the best shot to see these guys get cardboard with the team.

    12/13 UD 2 Question

There were basically only 3 or 4 good YGs in series 1. With the strike being over will UD 2 be loaded with good YGs.

It's a weak rookie crop this year, so loaded is a strong word. I hope that it's a limited release so that those YG's end up being a bit harder to get. It would be nice for the market not to be flooded with them.

All depends on what junior level players from the 2012 draft go to camps and make their teams.

I'm wondering if they use it as a "Rookie Update" type of product and put in Black Diamond and SPGU rookies into it (or into bonus packs with it). Thinking about that now, the bonus packs would be pretty cool if they were like Ice Packs. You'll have your Black Diamond Rookies with all of their parallels and the SP'd to jersey number SPGU rookie! Pretty cool if you ask me, and much better than making a product out of it in my opinion!
