NHL Power Poll: Habs’ playoff hopes rest on Gainey
BY: Craig Custance
Bob Gainey got it all wrong. All he had to do was promote coach Don Lever from Hamilton after firing Guy Carbonneau and everything would have been perfect. Cory Clouston and Dan Bylsma are proving that AHL coaches are the way to fix things, right? And if Lever didn’t work out, at least Gainey would have someone else to blame. Now it’s all on his shoulders. Montreal is just 1-3-2 in its first six games with Gainey behind the bench and suddenly Carbonneau’s 5-2 record before his firing isn’t so bad. So far, the firing is looking like another move in Montreal that hasn’t panned out for Gainey, who could ultimately take the fall if things continue to deteriorate.
