BREAKING NEWS: Allen Iverson to retire

ESPN columnist Stephen A. Smith has been told by Iverson's representitive that Iverson will officially retire. He is saying he is done...he still has a strong love for the game, and wants to play, but is retiring.

There were rumors earlier that the Celtics, Bobcats, Heat, Suns and Nuggets are all semi-interested in him, but it appears that he's hanging it up.

Because he wouldnt come off the bench, that will be his legacy forever, retiring because he refused to be a role player and be selfless

Such a shame, but once all the dust and hatred settles, he would always be remembered as one of the most explosive scoring guards in league history, he's sure to be a 1st ballet HOFer.

Gotta agree here too...I don't like the way he's gone about all of this, but there is no doubt that he was a great player.

ESPN just said that AI released a statement...they just went to an ad, so they'll share it when they come back, I'm sure.

It's official - AI released a statement saying that he'll file his retirement papers, and this has always been what he's wanted, to be able to retire to spend time with his wife and kids...I just don't think that this is the way that he wanted to go out.

Wow. I heard the retirement rumors, but I didn't think it would actually happen. I guess the good teams didn't want to take a chance on him messing up their locker room.

The way he wanted to go out was with legions and legions of drooling, awe-struck, zombie-like fans who worshipped him like a god, like Jordan, Kobe and LeBron have. Problem is, Allen Iverson hasn't mattered to the NBA since 2002 and everyone knows it.
