Illegals Don't Cost Our Country Billions?? Think Again
Welfare benefits for the children of illegal immigrants cost America's largest county more than $600 million last year, according to a local official keeping tabs on the cost.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich released new statistics this week showing social spending for those families in his county rose to $53 million in November, putting the county government on track to spend more than $600 million on related costs for the year -- up from $570 million in 2009.
Antonovich arrived at the estimate by factoring in the cost of food stamps and welfare-style benefits through a state program known as CalWORKS. Combined with public safety costs and health care costs, the official claimed the "total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers" was more than $1.6 billion in 2010.
"Not including the hundreds of millions of dollars for education," he said in a statement.
Antonovich's figures, though, center on costs generated by American-born children of illegal immigrants. Isabel Alegria, communications director at the California Immigrant Policy Center, said it's "unfair" to roll together costs associated with both illegal immigrants and U.S.-born citizens.
$1.6 billion in 2010 just for Los Angeles county. Imagine the cost to our country!! This is shocking.

wow amazing and disappointing.....and it doesn't appear to be stopping any time soon, which is a major slap in the face of the people who did the test and classes and served the US for the 4 or 6 year commitment they have to make to become citizens........

Yeah, I was just waiting for habs or gatorboy to point that out. Perhaps I should have referenced a more reputable source like Huff Post. LOL
I will be surprised to see any news source other than FN cover this. It is counter-intuitive to what the left has been trying to convince us of. Having an LA county official come out and outright say that the illegals are costing them billions is a slap in the face to anyone who says the illegals are not hurting our economic security just by being here.

The kicker in all of this is that LA county asked for it. While Arizona was trying to pass laws to stop illegal immigration Los Angeles was spreading it's arms and welcoming illegals to their city.
Anybody want to guess the over/under on how long it takes for Obama to write out a $2 billion dollar check to Los Angeles to help the poor and downtrodden county recover from this economic crisis?

Seeing as how the biggest chunk of the $1.6 billion is welfare and health care cost, I doubt if they have jobs. Perhaps if they had a job they wouldn't cost so much for the county to take care of them.
