Dems Turning On Obama Again

Before he took office, President Obama repeatedly promised voters and Democrats in Congress that he’d fight for changes to bankruptcy laws to help homeowners — a tough approach that would force banks to modify mortgages.

“I will change our bankruptcy laws to make it easier for families to stay in their homes,” Obama told supporters at a Colorado rally on Sept. 16, 2008, the same day as the bailout of AIG.

Bankruptcy judges have long been barred from lowering mortgage payments on primary residences, though they could do it with nearly all other types of debt, even mortgages on vacation homes. Obama promised to change that, describing it as exactly “the kind of out-of-touch Washington loophole that makes no sense.”

But when it came time to fight for the measure, he didn’t show up. Some Democrats now say his administration actually undermined it behind the scenes.

Interesting read. Apparently some Dems are not just saying he broke the promise but that he actually worked behind the scenes to make sure it didn't happen.

This brings up one of my biggest issues with the two party system. People can get pigeon holed into one side or the other by the stereotype party beliefs. I prefer our politicians have minds and opinions of their own rather than just toeing the party line so they don't ruffle any feathers.

I tend to gravitate towards politicians that will speak their mind no matter what party they are affiliated with. Even if I don't agree on their position they earn more of my respect for not falling in line just because it suites them.

I don't disagree with you in the slightest. I just think it is interesting how they went from going all doe-eyed at the mere mention of his name to going after him for broken campaign promises in just 12-14 months. This time last year he was bordering on sainthood, now he is the target of their angst.

Isn't it usually the opposition that points out the broken promises of the sitting president?

if he's breaking promises or not getting things done (although all politicians aren't getting things done) I don't think it's just the other parties duty to point it out. Just because someone is of the same party as a politician doesn't mean he/she should turn a blind eye... although that's typically what both parties do. That's the saddest part of the whole system. It gets so old hearing one party complain about something and then when the shoe is on the other foot they flip as to not complain about their own party that has the administrative power. A lot of the media does it too... right winged and left winged.
