Hillary Clinton: No-Fly Zone Over Libya Must Be An International Effort

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Sky News Wednesday that a no-fly zone over Libya cannot be a U.S.-led effort, and would need the backing of the international community.

"I think it's very important that this not be a U.S.-led effort, because this comes from the people of Libya themselves," she told Sky News.

"This doesn't come from the outside. This doesn't come from some Western power or some Gulf country saying this is what you should do, this is how you should live."

I couldn't agree more. If the international community wants something done in Libya then the international community needs to do it. This crap of everyone else standing around with their hands in their pockets while the U.S. does the job and then criticizing the U.S. if it doesn't go correctly is getting old.

I still wish Hillary had gotten the Democratic nomonation...

Couldnt agree more with you. Time for someone else to step up if they want this done...Honestly though wish we would stay out of it PERIOD.... Nothing good can really come from doing any work at all inside Libya IMO

I don't see why we have to do anything at all with it. Its EUropes problem, let them handle the millions of refugees when they come flooding into Europe. We have millions of illegals coming here and I don't see Europe saying ANYTHING about it.

Europe takes plenty of refugees, look it up. I would have thought it's Africas problem not Europes. Why does America have anything to do with it? One word, Oil.

Actually if you do some reading you will find that most US politicians support staying out of it and so far we have. If we get involved it is because the rest of the members of the UN lack the spine to perform any military action on their own, as usual.

Also, getting involved for oil would be kind of silly seeing as Libya only produces about 2.5% of the world's oil. However, they are where Europe gets much of it's oil. Perhaps the UN push for the US to get involved is because of Europe's own thirst for oil.

The days of "It's Europe's problem" or "It's Africa's problem" are over. 50-100 years ago, that may have been so, but today, it's a global economy, global community, and a global problem...and there should be a global solution.

Unfortunately the global community doesn't get involved. The global community sits idly by, complaining about the situation but doing nothing about it because they are either too scared or too impotent to, waiting for the U.S. to get involved, and then when we do people like hairylemon and habs are the first to start crying because the U.S. doesn't mind it's own business.

Personally I think we need to stay out of it, period. No matter what happens, we stay home. If this turns into an outright massacre, it isn't our problem.

Many times its America sticking their nose in things and causing these problems. How many dictators has the USA put into place and how many death have those dictators caused? America has alot of wrongs that need righted and they need to figure the best way to do this,turning a blinds eye and ignoring this is not the way. They can supply the rebels with medical aid, maybe food fresh water. freeze these warlords/ dictators/ect. assets show the world the America has compassion and doesnt need to resort to handing out guns/drugs/or invading countries and destroying whatever.

Contributing to the rebel effort with humanitarian aid is contributing to deaths too. They are out-manned and out-gunned. Giving them food and medicine only further promotes a one-sided war. The rebels cannot defeat tanks and air strikes with AK-47s and the occasional RPG. If the rebels are going to win it will be with the assistance of a superior military force, not because of bandages and fresh water.

Compasion is also about not prolonging the death of the doomed.
