    Postage Issues / Rates?

    Hello,

I recently wanted to begin a Hall of Fame 8x10 collection. I've sent 8x10's out before, but it is rare. Most recently I sent to Jeffery DeMunn (actor). This was about 2 months ago. I had put on 4 stamps ($1.76). A few days ago I sent to Jim Bunning. I also used 4 stamps.

Yesterday I sent out to Bobby Doerr. Today I found it back in my mailbox marked asking for 12 cents additional postage.

What the ? Did I miss the memo that rates when up?

This worries me. Now I'm worried my Bunning won't come back at all if my SASE is flagged for insufficient postage (even though I do use my address as the return address...dunno if that even works).

Evidently they went up, I don't know how much though. I usually just put three stamps on the SASE for 8x10's and they come back fine, even after this increase in postage, which surprises me. I even use cardboard and a 8x10 sized binder page. Four may be the new magic number for that with the increase. I usually just have them weigh it and I pay for the sticker on the outside, I don't bother with stamps. Odd they stuck it back in your box though.. Usually the person receiving the package gets the "requires ____ more postage" in their box. Your Bunning photo should be fine, he'll probably get the little note in his box lol.

I send 8x10s out with a piece of cardboard, and sometimes a sharpie, and it's usually 3-4 ounces. The rates for everything over an ounce went up about a Month ago. I usually put 4 .44 cent stamps on my SASEs as well, but have gotten about two or three back in the last couple of weeks that have had an extra .12 cents added by the Post office. I guess it just depends on who the postal worker is, but it looks like we are out of luck and need to start adding more to the return envelopes.
